Good bit of news for anyone who likes a bit of Serie A. Having it on the BBC in the UK should make it way easier for people to actually stumble across games instead of just hearing about them after the fact.

It is only 38 live matches, so not exactly wall-to-wall coverage, but free is free and that matters. If they do it properly, it could give the league a proper boost here and maybe drag a few more casuals in.

Big question is whether they can make it feel special. A lot of people are already talking about old Football Italia days, James Richardson, the theme tune and all that. If the presentation is half decent, this could be a really nice bit of nostalgia as well as a good move for the league.
 
honestly this is class for anyone whos been priced out of football lately and if the bbc actually treat it like a proper product and not some random filler then it could do bits for serie a in the uk tbh
 
If the BBC are sensible, they will lean into the presentation and make the coverage feel distinct from generic highlight packages. Serie A benefits from context, because a lot of UK fans still only know the biggest clubs, so a good host and decent analysis could really help. It is a smart move if they commit to it properly.
 
im already picturing some bloke in a suit trying to make serie a sound like the biggest thing in the world while the theme tune absolutely carries the whole broadcast and honestly fair play if they get the old vibes back because that would be top tier
 
The key thing is consistency. One match a week will not turn Serie A into must-watch TV overnight, but it does create an easy entry point for casual viewers. If the first few picks are good, the audience could grow steadily.

If the BBC get the tone wrong it will feel flat, but if they get it right it could actually be a little event each week. I just hope they do not mess around with it because the league deserves better than being treated like some random extra on a schedule, and honestly after years of paying for every bloody thing under the sun this feels like a tiny bit of justice at last
 
Free-to-air coverage should help Serie A reach more casual viewers. The real test is whether the production makes it feel like an event.
 
This is the sort of thing that should have happened years ago. Free football on a proper channel, a league with history, actual names people recognise, and maybe a chance to get some atmosphere back into watching games on TV instead of everything being buried behind subscriptions and apps and all the rest of the nonsense. If they bring back even a hint of that old presentation style then brilliant, because people are desperate for something that feels different instead of the same soulless package every week. I am absolutely sick of football being a money grab from every angle and this at least feels like someone remembered fans exist for once, so fair play if they actually follow through and do it properly because if they fumble this then what is even the point
