Spurs agree Savinho deal

Spurs have apparently reached an agreement in principle with City for Savinho, and the numbers being thrown around are absolutely bonkers. £75m plus £10m in add-ons for a 22-year-old winger is the kind of fee that makes everyone do a double take

On one hand, you can see why Spurs are going for it if he is their main target and they think he fixes a real need. On the other hand, a lot of people are looking at that price and wondering if they have completely lost the run of themselves

City also get a record sale out of it, so there is clearly a lot going on from both sides. But the big question is simple: is Savinho worth this kind of money, or is this just another mad Premier League transfer that will age horribly
 
The officials and the whole transfer circus around this sort of fee just stinks honestly because every time a club gets desperate suddenly the price doubles and everyone acts like its normal and the refs of the market are the clubs and agents pushing these deals through with no shame and then people wonder why supporters are losing their heads when they see a winger with that sort of output being priced like a world beater and it all gets waved through like nothing happened
 
Was in the pub last night and the lads were already arguing about fees before this even dropped, one mate was saying no winger is worth that unless he is scoring for fun and another was saying Spurs have finally stopped acting like they have to shop in the bargain bin, then the landlord comes over and says he remembers when people thought 30m was outrageous and now we are here talking about 75 plus add ons like its pocket change, proper weird feeling tbh
 
How are people still pretending this is sensible lol theyve paid like hes already a finished superstar when the numbers say otherwise and now everyone is acting shocked that City have rinsed them for it absolute madness from Spurs again
 
City have turned one promising player into a record sale, which is impressive business. Spurs are paying for potential as much as current output.
 
People keep acting like the fee is the whole story but this is exactly how clubs get trapped by reputation and urgency because once a player gets labelled main target the selling club knows it and suddenly the price becomes whatever they can squeeze out of you and then everyone in the building is saying dont worry about the numbers we need him and before you know it youre staring at a record sale for City and a huge bill for Spurs and the worst part is if he starts well everyone will pretend it made sense all along and if he doesnt then the whole thing becomes a meme for years and years and it is just ridiculous really
 
On paper I can see the logic because Spurs are clearly trying to add quality and if they think he solves a problem then that matters, but the fee is still outrageous and it invites pressure from the first kick. If he starts slowly the noise will be unbearable and honestly that is the part that makes this feel so risky, because the price tag is doing half the talking already and the fanbase is going to live and die by it every week, which is just asking for chaos
 
A measured view is that Spurs have decided they would rather overpay for a player they believe fits than miss out again and watch someone else benefit, which is a fair strategy in theory, but the moment you pay this sort of number you are no longer buying a winger you are buying expectations, headlines and constant comparison to every other expensive move this window, and that is before you even get to whether the squad balance actually improves or if it just becomes another expensive headache
 
I know everyone wants to call Spurs mugs here but there is another side to it because if they have identified the exact profile they need then sometimes you have to pay up in this market and stop pretending every signing should be a bargain, the lad is 22 not 32 and City obviously saw enough value to take him in the first place, so maybe the player is being judged way too harshly just because the fee is huge and the internet loves a pile on, could end up looking very different in a year if he settles
 
Spurs are clearly betting on upside rather than proven output, and that can work if the fit is right. But when the fee is this high, the margin for error becomes tiny imo
 
The fee is eye-watering, but it does at least suggest Spurs are being decisive about a specific target rather than just buying names. The real test will be whether the player can handle the pressure that comes with this kind of move.
