Sunderland are in Europe

It is easy to focus on the romance of it, but there is real substance here too. They have looked organised, resilient and well coached, which is why this has gone beyond a novelty story and become a genuinely impressive campaign.
 
People keep acting like this is some lucky run or a cute underdog story but Sunderland have earned every bit of it and then some because the club has been through absolute hell and still kept going and the fans have carried that weight for years while watching rubbish and false dawns and all sorts of nonsense and now when they finally get something proper people want to reduce it to a meme or a one season wonder and that is nonsense because the mentality, the coaching, the togetherness, all of it has clearly been built the hard way and you dont get that by accident and anyone trying to belittle it can honestly do one because this is exactly what football should be about
 
The most impressive part is that they have turned a promoted season into a sustained European push rather than a short burst of form. That usually points to strong coaching and a squad that understands its roles, which is why this feels so deserved.
