Bit of a weird one this, because the thread is basically everyone reacting to FIFA posting the teams qualified for the RO32 and then the top comments just being a couple of throwaway jokes. Still, you can already see the usual mood: people taking the piss, people moaning, and people acting like it is all perfectly predictable.

Honestly, it feels like one of those moments where the actual football news is less interesting than the reactions around it. A lot of fans are probably looking at the list and thinking the same thing: no real shocks, same old faces, same old FIFA circus.

What do people make of it then, proper tournament build-up or just another reminder that international football always ends up in the same place?

The officials and FIFA lot always make this kind of thing feel like a total farce honestly, even when its just a simple qualified teams post they somehow manage to turn it into a circus with weird formatting, clunky timing, and the usual smug presentation like theyve invented football, then everyone gets stuck arguing about what should have been obvious in the first place and the whole thing just stinks of people in suits trying to act bigger than the game itself and it does my head in because they never just let anything be normal

Feels like a lot of teams just sat deep in the qualification process and waited for mistakes, proper tournament football stuff really, once the big sides settle into shape it gets very attritional and ugly

It is not especially surprising if you look at how these tournaments usually go. The same established teams keep finding a way through, and the qualification picture ends up looking very familiar.

Went down the pub last night and the lads had the game on in the corner while we were just chatting rubbish and every time someone mentioned FIFA or the World Cup everyone just laughed because it always feels like the same chat every cycle, same teams, same graphics, same self important build up, and the landlord even said it looked like a McDonalds advert when the teams came up which had us all in bits, then one bloke started arguing that the usual suspects always get through because they are better prepared and another said it is all just money and branding and honestly by the end of the night nobody even cared about the actual list anymore we were just taking the piss out of the whole thing and the fact that top comment was McDonalds is killing me because that is exactly the sort of nonsense you hear after a few pints when nobody is really watching properly

The interesting part is not the list itself but how quickly people settle into the idea that it is all predictable. Once the usual teams qualify, the conversation becomes more about the shape of the tournament than the qualification stage itself.

Honestly this is exactly why people get fed up with FIFA because every single time they put out one of these graphics or lists it feels like it is designed to make the most basic thing look like a massive event and then you look at the comments and it is just people joking about McDonalds and usual suspects and that is basically the whole internet football culture now, nobody is shocked because nobody expects anything different, and FIFA somehow still manage to make it feel both overblown and underwhelming at the same time which is a proper achievement if you think about it because the actual football part should be the focus but instead the whole thing gets swallowed up by branding and the same recycled reactions from fans who have seen it all before
