Well, this is properly bizarre. Tuchel getting singled out by Trump for making Kane into a defensive player is one of those football moments that sounds made up until you see it, and now it feels like the whole thing has gone completely off the rails.

It is funny, awkward and a bit embarrassing all at once. You can argue about the tactics all day, but getting called out by Trump has to be a new low point in any manager's career.

Honestly, this is the sort of thing that would get laughed off if it was in a sketch, but here we are. Tuchel's going to be hearing about this one for a long time, whether he likes it or not.
 
It is hard to think of a more surreal way to get criticised. Even if the point about Kane has some merit, being roasted by Trump makes the whole thing feel completely ridiculous.
 
tuchel really cant catch a break man first the tactics now hes getting cooked by trump of all people and somehow it just makes everything even more embarrassing
 
Tuchel has completely overthought this whole thing with Kane and now it is turned into a massive joke because he keeps trying to be too clever for his own good, the whole defensive player thing is exactly the sort of nonsense that makes people lose patience with him, he always wants to look like the smartest bloke in the room and then ends up making the obvious answer look impossible, and now Trump has basically handed everyone the easiest punchline in football history, Kane is not some holding midfielder mate he is one of the best attackers around and if you are making him sit deep then you are asking for trouble, Tuchel has to own that because it looks ridiculous from the outside and now it is all anyone is going to remember about this whole mess
 
The weird part is the tactic itself is almost secondary now because the optics are so bad, if you are already struggling then having Kane described like that just gives everyone a stick to beat you with and the whole thing snowballs from there
 
getting tactical advice from trump is absolutely where tuchel has ended up and that is so funny it hurts, proper elite level clowning from the worst possible source
 
I am actually laughing out loud at this because it feels so random and so stupid and yet it is somehow real, Tuchel probably thought he was having a normal day and then this happens and now everyone is losing it over Kane being turned into a defensive player, unreal stuff
 
The measured point is that the tactical criticism is not even the main story here, it is the fact that the criticism came from Trump and instantly turned into a meme. Any manager would rather be debated by pundits than become a punchline in this way. But then you look at the whole thing and it is impossible not to get dragged into the absurdity of it, because football already has enough nonsense without a former president randomly acting like a touchline analyst and everyone pretending this is normal, the sport is basically a constant stream of weird ego contests and this is just the latest chapter in that absolute mess, and somehow it still feels like there will be another even stranger one next week
 
People are acting like Tuchel has committed some football crime here but I do not think it is that simple at all, managers try odd things all the time and sometimes the idea is to control games in a different way rather than just throw Kane up top and hope for the best, and yes it might look strange from the outside but that does not automatically make it wrong, England have had plenty of managers who played it safe and got nowhere so I do not really get why everyone is piling on like he has personally ruined the sport, the bigger issue is that the whole conversation has become about Trump opening his mouth instead of actually discussing the football, which is exactly why this is all so annoying because Tuchel should be judged on results and structure not on whether some random loudmouth decided to meme him into oblivion
