Trump roasting Tuchel's tactics is unreal

This is one of those moments where you have to step back and admit the whole thing is absurd. Tuchel getting dragged by Trump is already ridiculous enough, but the fact that people are now pretending this is some kind of deep tactical verdict is even funnier. I get the criticism, I really do, because making Kane sound like a defensive player is always going to raise eyebrows, but the internet has turned it into a full blown humiliation ritual and it is spiralling completely out of control, and honestly Tuchel has nobody to blame but himself for making it easy, because once you give people that sort of line they will run with it forever and there is no putting that back in the bottle now
 
Honestly I do not even know what is more embarrassing for Tuchel at this point the actual idea of turning Kane into some kind of defensive player or the fact that Trump has now stepped in and made it into a worldwide joke because that is the sort of thing that follows you forever, every future press conference every future pundit clip every future discussion about his England setup is going to get dragged back to this and that is brutal, because even if there was some logic behind the tactics it is gone now, buried under the fact that the comment came from the most chaotic possible source and everyone is laughing instead of analysing anything properly, football discourse is completely cooked
 
Trump coming in like the away fan with one pint in him and suddenly he is the loudest tactical expert in the room, absolute scenes mate, Tuchel is never living this down and Kane has been turned into the most expensive defensive midfielder on earth
 
I actually think the line about it being unusual is fair enough, because it is unusual, but the real joke is who said it and how everyone has reacted to it. Tuchel is going to be attached to this clip for ages now tbh
 
There is a serious point buried in the joke, which is that if Kane is being asked to do defensive work then England are probably not getting the best out of him. But once Trump says it, the whole discussion becomes impossible to separate from the comedy of it all.
 
On a purely football level, the issue is whether Tuchel is asking too much of Kane and whether that blunts England's threat, and that is the part people should be talking about, but instead we have this surreal circus where Trump is the one landing the line that everyone repeats, and now Tuchel looks like he has been turned into a meme by the worst possible person at the worst possible time, and honestly it is hard not to laugh because the whole thing is so bizarre and so avoidable and so perfectly chaotic that you almost have to admire the sheer stupidity of it all
 
The officials in this whole circus are almost as embarrassing as the comment itself because you have this giant spectacle where everyone is smiling and clapping and acting like it is all very dignified while the actual football side gets reduced to a joke, and that is exactly the problem with these events, the people in charge love the cameras more than the game, they love the pageantry and the self importance and the fake seriousness, and then when something genuinely silly happens they pretend it is normal, and it is the same old story with the people running football, always looking polished, always looking smug, always getting in the way of the actual sport, absolute shambles
