UEFA and CONCACAF eye combined Nations League

I do not buy the idea that this is automatically better than a normal Nations League just because it is bigger, a bigger tournament is not always a better one and if the logistics are poor then it will just become a slog with extra travel and more dead games and everyone will pretend it is visionary while the football suffers
 
Imagine the group stage draw and some poor side gets sent halfway across the world for one game and a week later has to do it again absolute chaos but also kind of funny
 
if this happens then fifa are gonna act like theyve been betrayed when really theyve spent years making a mess of everything and now other people want a piece of the pie
 
The format will be the key issue. If they use regional groups first and only bring the bigger travel later, it could work quite well. If they try to force everyone into one giant shape from the start, it will become a logistical headache very quickly.
 
If this ends up happening people will pretend it is about development but you just know certain players are going to be run into the ground by this constant stream of tournaments and this is exactly the sort of thing that makes me angry because football authorities never seem to care about legs, recovery or common sense they just keep inventing more stuff and then act surprised when the whole thing feels overloaded and the same players are being asked to do everything all year long and it is always the fans and the players who pay for the mess while the suits clap for themselves
 
My first reaction was honestly just a laugh because it feels like another one of those football ideas that sounds ridiculous until you think about it for ten seconds and then you realise it might actually be useful for some of the smaller sides and now I am conflicted because I hate the politics but I can see the football reason for it and that is annoying
 
There is a measured case for this because the current international calendar leaves too many teams without enough meaningful fixtures and a combined competition could help address that, especially for smaller nations that rarely get to test themselves properly, but once you start thinking about it you end up down a rabbit hole of travel, scheduling, player workload and whether people would even take it seriously, and then you start wondering if football is just permanently stuck in this loop where every solution creates three new problems and every governing body wants to be seen as the one that saved the game while really just making another layer of admin and commercial nonsense and before you know it you are back to arguing about FIFA, UEFA, CONCACAF and who gets to look most righteous while everyone else gets a headache
 
Of course the officials would turn this into another mess because every time football bodies invent a new competition they somehow make the rules, scheduling and qualification issues worse than the thing they were trying to replace and then everyone just shrugs when the product is confusing and the players are knackered and the fans have no idea what is going on and the worst part is the people making these decisions never seem to answer for any of it they just move on to the next shiny idea like they have not already filled the calendar with enough nonsense
