Belgium have absolutely battered the USA here and Lukaku gets the late one to make it even worse. It was already turning into a proper hatewatch and that finish just sealed it.

The whole thing feels like one of those nights where everything goes wrong at once for the home side. The red card, the meltdown, the noise online afterwards, all of it added to the chaos.

Belgium might not even be at their absolute peak, but they have still made the USA look miles off it. Absolute scenes for everyone else, brutal for the yanks.
 
The red card gave everyone an excuse to point at one moment, but the truth is Belgium still looked sharper and more composed throughout. USA never really recovered after that and the whole thing turned into a proper public beating imo
 
Belgium were comfortable because they kept their shape and waited for the right moments. The USA looked frantic once the game got stretched, and that late goal just exposed how little control they had left.
 
From a tactical point of view Belgium did exactly what they needed to do, they absorbed the pressure, stayed patient, and then punished the gaps when the USA got desperate. That is the simple version anyway, because the actual feeling of watching it was just pure chaos and humiliation and every time the ball went forward the home side looked like they were hoping for a miracle rather than building anything and then Lukaku pops up again and the whole thing becomes a meme and honestly if you are a USA fan tonight you are probably staring at the ceiling wondering how it got this bad because it was meant to be different and it was meant to be their moment and instead they got dragged all over the place and laughed at by half the internet and that is absolutely brutal
 
Lukaku man what a nuisance he is for defenders every single time he comes on he just turns into this giant problem that nobody wants to deal with and tonight was no different because he only needs one chance and suddenly everyone is scrambling like mad and the USA had no answer at all, they looked shaky every time Belgium went direct and the moment he got the late goal it was basically done, people can talk about the red card all they want but the way Belgium kept finding him and the way he kept occupying everyone was a joke and the American defence just looked lost and slow and panicked and that is on them because you cannot switch off for a second when he is around and they did and got punished and honestly he was everywhere without even needing to do that much, proper striker's instinct and the rest of them looked like they were running in treacle
 
I know everyone wants to pile on the USA and fair enough because the meltdown was real, but Belgium were still the better side and it is mad how quickly people act like this was some kind of total embarrassment for them when they handled the moment properly and stayed patient under pressure and then nicked the game when it mattered, that is what good sides do, they do not panic when the crowd is against them and they do not start flinging themselves forward like idiots, they just wait and punish you, and Lukaku is still a massive handful even when people call him washed, so maybe instead of pretending the losing side were complete clowns we should admit Belgium were solid and professional and had far more composure than the US tonight and that is why they walked away laughing while everyone else was losing their minds
 
usa looked rattled as soon as things went against them and belgium just kept their shape and waited for the opening, lukaku coming on and finishing it off felt inevitable tbh
 
i switched this on expecting a decent contest and ended up watching a full on online execution the whole atmosphere around it was wild and now im just sat here laughing at how bad it got
 
Belgium were not even spectacular, but they were organised and ruthless enough to make the USA pay. Once the game started opening up, the Americans looked like they were chasing shadows and every transition felt dangerous. Then Lukaku comes on and it is over, and the whole thing just turns into a complete mess because the pressure gets too much and the mistakes pile up and you can see the confidence drain out of them by the minute and honestly that is the part that is so brutal, not just losing but looking that far away from handling the moment
 
The officials will get blamed because that is what happens after a game like this, but the bigger issue is the whole thing was already boiling over and nobody seemed able to calm it down, every little decision just made the crowd louder and the players more frantic and then you get the late goal and suddenly the anger is everywhere and the ref is getting it from all sides and it becomes this massive circus where everyone is shouting about corruption and bias and whatever else while the actual football gets drowned out and honestly it was a shambles from start to finish and the officials somehow ended up in the middle of all of it again
