Villa open talks for Jackson

Jackson drives me absolutely mad because you can see the raw tools there and then he does something that makes you wonder if he has ever seen a goal before, the movement is there, the work rate is there, the chaos is there, but the finishing can be so bad that it ruins the whole thing and then people start talking him up like he is some elite striker when he is not, he is a frustrating player who can help you but also make you want to throw your phone across the room and if Villa pay this fee and expect him to suddenly become clinical every week they are going to be in for a rude awakening because Chelsea fans know exactly what kind of emotional rollercoaster they are passing on

People keep acting like this is some outrageous number but the reality is the market has gone completely mad and Chelsea have learned how to play it better than most clubs, they let the noise build, they keep the contract situation tight, and suddenly a player everyone was mocking becomes a huge fee and everyone else is sitting there saying how did that happen, and with Jackson specifically you can at least understand why Villa might do it because he gives you intensity, he gives you runs, he gives you pressure, and if they trust Emery to iron out the finishing then it is not as ridiculous as the outrage makes it sound, but at the same time if you are paying that much you are basically buying yourself a season of people waiting for every miss to go viral and that is a brutal place for a striker to live, absolutely brutal

There is a fair argument both ways here. Jackson is clearly not a polished finisher, but he does enough other things well that a coach can build around him. The real question is whether Villa want to pay club-record money for a player whose biggest selling point is potential rather than certainty.

i cant lie this would have me stressed if i was a villa fan because every time chelsea get mentioned in a deal it just feels like they are about to somehow make a fortune and leave everyone else arguing over whether the player is actually any good or just looks better in the numbers

People are acting like Villa are signing some washed up mercenary when in reality they are trying to replace a major attacking role with a player who is young, available, and already used to the league, and that matters a lot more than the memes about his misses, because football is not just about finishing one chance in a highlight reel, it is about what you do over ninety minutes and Jackson gives you movement, pressing, and the ability to pin a back line, which is exactly the sort of thing that can open space for everyone else around him, so yes the fee is huge and yes Chelsea love getting people worked up, but if you want to be serious about competing then you cannot just keep saying no to every player who has an awkward reputation, otherwise you end up with no options at all and then everyone complains that the club has no ambition and no forward planning and no threat in transition and all the rest of it, so maybe let the football people do the football bit before calling it a disaster from the sofa

Chelsea always seem to be able to move players on for proper money and that part is maddening, but Villa are not stupid for looking at Jackson if they think Emery can sharpen him up. He is chaotic, he is frustrating, and he can make you scream at the screen, but there is clearly a player there and that is probably why this fee has got legs. Still, if it goes wrong, the abuse online is going to be feral and everyone knows it

The fee only makes sense if Villa believe Jackson’s output can rise under Emery. His underlying profile is attractive, but the margin for error becomes tiny once you are talking club-record money.

honestly i get why villa might want him but the whole thing still feels a bit mad because hes got the tools but the end product is always the bit that makes you pull your hair out and if theyre paying this much then every missed chance is gonna be a full on meltdown
