Vozinha absolutely deserved MOTM

Cape Verde will be delighted with that point and Vozinha will probably get remembered for years after it. It is the sort of performance that can lift a whole squad, tbh

The officials would have been losing the plot if they let Spain get anything easy there because every time Cape Verde stood firm it felt like the ref was letting play drift in one direction and then suddenly the momentum would shift and you could see the frustration building, and when a keeper is making big saves like that the last thing you need is sloppy decisions ruining the rhythm of the game, it makes the whole thing feel cheap and that is what annoys me about modern football coverage because everyone wants to talk about the star names and the trophies but the people actually doing the work end up having to fight through nonsense from the officials as well and then somehow we are meant to pretend it is all fine just because the result looks neat on paper, absolute joke if you ask me and I bet Cape Verde were thinking the same thing at times because you could feel the tension and the pressure and the little bits of hesitation every time the whistle went and it just makes the whole match feel heavier than it should be

that was one of those nights where the keeper just refuses to be beaten and everyone around him feeds off it cape verde looked so locked in and spain looked proper frustrated by the end

proper hero stuff from Vozinha and you can imagine the whole team buzzing around him after that because when a keeper has one of those nights it changes everything and Spain just end up looking like theyre banging their head against a wall for ages which is always funny when youre not supporting them and a bit miserable when you are but thats football and thats why these tournaments pop off so hard

The main point is that this was the kind of goalkeeper display that changes how people remember a game, because not every match gives you a clear star but this one clearly did. Cape Verde as a whole deserve credit for the defensive work, and that matters because a keeper only looks as good as the structure around him to a point. But if you zoom out a bit, this is also why people get carried away with tournament football and start making giant claims after a single night, because the emotion of it takes over and everyone wants to crown a new hero immediately, which is understandable, though sometimes it turns into overkill and the conversation stops being about the football and starts being about Instagram followers and branded trophies and all the rest of it, which is where modern football gets a bit silly if Im honest because the game itself is already dramatic enough without needing all the extra noise and then you end up with people arguing over the optics instead of just saying yeah that was a brilliant performance and moving on

Cape Verde looked extremely well drilled, but the goalkeeper still had to make the decisive interventions. That balance is why the award feels right rather than sentimental.

People keep talking about the whole team and fair enough but Vozinha was the one who kept the thing alive and I am not having anyone downplay that because goalkeepers get judged on the moments where they look human and ignored on the nights where they are basically superheroes and this was one of those nights where he just kept standing there and saying no over and over again and Spain must have been thinking what do we have to do to get this past him because every time they tried something he was there and that changes the whole emotional shape of a match and then the internet does what it always does and starts acting like the player is suddenly untouchable forever which is ridiculous but also kind of the fun of it because when someone has a massive performance like this you want to shout about it and I get that, I really do, but the way people will turn around and call him the best thing since sliced bread after one game is still mad to me and if he has another huge performance then fair enough but right now just let the man enjoy the moment and stop acting like every save has rewritten football history
