Watkins to Al-Hilal? Surely not

people in here acting like the club should just lock him in a room and refuse the move is hilarious because if the number is stupid enough then half of them would be making the same choice tomorrow, football fans love preaching loyalty until it is someone else turning down a life changing amount of money and then suddenly it is all about legacy and badge kissing and all that nonsense

I can see why people are sceptical because no one wants to believe a move like this without stronger reporting. At the same time, it would not be shocking if a Saudi club targeted a player like Watkins given the money involved and the general direction of these deals.

This is the sort of rumour that gets people losing their minds way too early because one minute it is just a headline and the next minute everybody is talking like the player has packed his bags and said goodbye to the training ground already and you get all these takes about loyalty and legacy and money and family and whether the club can survive without him and in reality nobody actually knows anything yet so the whole comment section turns into a massive screaming match over a source that might be nothing which is exactly why transfer season is both hilarious and unbearable because people cannot help themselves and then they act shocked when the story changes later

if this turns out to be real then villa are gonna be in a right mess because theyve built so much around him and people keep saying money is money but losing a key player like this still hurts no matter how much you get paid for the sale

The source quality matters here more than the headline. Until a more reliable reporter picks it up, I would treat this as noise.

From a tactical point of view, Watkins is the sort of striker that gives a team structure as much as goals. If Villa lose him, the replacement has to fit Emery's patterns quickly or the whole attack becomes less fluid.

I was in the pub when someone put this on the screen and the whole table just went silent for a second then everyone started arguing at once like it was the end of the world, one lad said he would retire if his club sold their best striker to Saudi, another lad said take the money and run, and I just sat there thinking this is exactly why football nights are ridiculous because one rumour can turn a quiet pint into a full on debate about loyalty, wealth, ambition and whether anyone actually means what they say when they sing about players staying forever, absolutely mental scene and nobody had even checked if the story was real yet
