Zlatan gets humble over Messi again

Zlatan being this complimentary about Messi is always a bit surreal, isn’t it? For a bloke who built a whole second career out of talking himself up, it says a lot that he sounds genuinely impressed here.

Messi clearly still has that effect on people, even someone like Zlatan. Whether you call it respect, admiration, or just the GOAT recognising another GOAT, it is pretty mad to hear him this self-deprecating for once.

And honestly, the timing makes it even better with Messi’s birthday coming up. Proper footballing bromance stuff, and the whole thing feels like a reminder of how much these two names still carry in the game.

people always act like zlatan is some cartoon villain when really hes just been a massive personality and a proper competitor all his career and when he talks like this about messi its because he knows exactly what level messi is at and its not even about glazing or whatever stupid word people keep shouting now its just football respect from one elite player to another and if anything it makes the other lads look better too because they can say all the noise they want but when zlatan is sitting there sounding almost emotional about someone else then you know it means something real and not just social media nonsense and i still think people are way too quick to reduce him to the ego stuff when theres clearly more to it than that

zlatan being humble is genuinely weird to see ngl because hes usually all about himself but this one feels different, like he actually means it and messi has that effect where even the biggest mouth in football turns into a fan for a minute

People need to stop pretending this is some magical one-off because Zlatan has always had this thing where he picks and chooses who he respects and who he thinks is worthy of the praise and when it comes to Messi he has always been different and that is exactly why this stands out so much because you can hear the frustration in the way he talks about everyone else compared to the way he talks about him and it is not even subtle anymore, he sounds like a bloke who has spent years trying to compete with a ghost and finally accepted that the ghost is just better and honestly thats fine, but it is also why some of his other comments get annoying because he can be so over the top about himself then suddenly turn into this wise old football sage when Messi comes up and it makes the whole thing feel a bit performative even if he does mean it, which maybe he does, but still, it is very Zlatan to make humility sound like a brand

I dont think this is him changing at all tbh he has praised Messi before and people just act shocked every single time like its some new event when really its just Zlatan being Zlatan and giving credit where he thinks it belongs

Messi has got even Zlatan speaking like a school headmaster now, proper strange that, next thing you know he will be saying he enjoys a quiet night in with a cup of tea and no ego at all
