Lions are a different beast under Barber
Queensland Lions SC are the clear odds-on favorite at 1.73 for Saturday's NPL Queensland 2026 clash with Peninsula Power and for once the bookies aren't wrong. This fixture has been one-way traffic with Lions winning four of the last five head-to-head clashes and they look to be going in the right direction once more. Lions boss Dan Barber has made this team quick to transition and tenacious to press. They look a different animal this year and it's a system that should cause Power all kinds of trouble here if they sit on the ball too long or get caught overloading the midfield and out wide. Lions are a typical 4-3-3 outfit that press high and then transition quickly into the wide channels on the counter. Peninsula Power are a good side, but they'll be tested on Saturday by one of the hottest teams in the country, as Lions have won nine of their last ten matches across all competitions. That run includes a 4-0 win over North Sunshine Eagles in the Australia Cup and a 4-1 league victory at home to Power in their most recent matchup.
Power don’t have the away record to topple Lions
Power will be looking to break their five-game winless streak against their hosts here, but they haven't had much luck in this fixture in recent times. They've failed to win any of their last five against Lions and the stats don't make for positive reading for Power here.
The Power have won just two of their last 10 across all competitions (D4, L4) and have been more inconsistent of late. Their most recent five matches have seen them win one, draw two and lose two, and they don't have much of a record away from home. Power have lost four and drawn three of their seven away matches this season, so the visitors are clearly the tougher proposition.
Betting advice
Backing both teams to score at 1.5 is live, but with the Lions so in form, we're going for Over 2.5 goals at 1.53. We fancy this to be a lively fixture, with the Lions bringing the firepower to go with the odds and form lines.
Lions to win and both teams to score is an option, but we're avoiding that as Power boss Aaron Philp's team are usually a possession-based side who know how to hold onto the ball and get their footwork right when they are in possession. The Power will be structured, but they have conceded 15 goals away across all competitions, at an average of 2.14 per game, and they can be vulnerable when pinned back.
Lions are a 4-3-3 team who get men behind the ball and move the ball wide with speed when they win it back, so we're hoping for a flurry of goals in the second half as they are more likely to pin Power back and create chances as the game goes on. Mitchell Hore has scored three of Lions' last five goals and he is on a hot streak in front of goal at the moment.
