- Brora Rangers have lost four of their last five in all competitions (D1, L4)
- Aberdeen have won one and lost four of their last five in all competitions (W1, L4)
- Brora have failed to win two of their last three home games (D1, L2) but have conceded 11 goals in six home games in all competitions
Brora will try to make this a dogfight
Brora Rangers are on a rough run, but they are in the middle of a wobble and this Tuesday's League Cup Group A contest against Aberdeen FC looks a good deal tougher than their recent opponents.
Steven Mackay sets Brora up with a back four base from which they can switch between a 4-2-3-1 and 4-3-3 formations. The wingers provide the width and the No.10 is a live wire who can push the team forward on the break. It is a simple system that relies on being compact at the back, sharp in transition and selective in the high press - and Brora will aim to make this game a dogfight and hit on the counter-attack.
Brora's home form has slipped in recent weeks with no wins, one draw and two defeats in their last three at home. They have conceded 11 times in six at home in all competitions, suggesting they are not quite watertight at the back, but can push forward quickly when they get the ball.
Aberdeen have more quality, but are not yet fully formed
Stephen Robinson took charge of Aberdeen on 12 March, 2026 and has been attempting to get the club to play with a solid central foundation, wing-backs and trigger press. It's a look that should be much cleaner and more disciplined than Brora's free-flowing set up and we believe the wide channels will decide this contest.
Dons should have too much quality and structure for Brora to have a chance of getting a result, but the visitors are on a very wobbly run of results - winning four, drawing one and losing five in their last ten in all competitions. Their most recent three games - a 0-1 defeat to FC Twente, a 3-6 defeat to Ross County and a 2-0 win at Linfield - show the volatility of the results that the Aberdeen side are producing at the moment.
Over 2.5 goals is available at 23/100 with Under 2.5 at 11/4, which seems like a bit of a mismatch given the price for Both Teams to Score is 57/100 with Yes at 5/4. We think Brora will ensure this is closer than the prices suggest with their style of play, but Aberdeen should have enough to nick it.
