Carrick can cut loose in opener
Carrick Rangers open their 2026-2027 Premiership campaign with a winnable fixture at home to a Portadown FC team that will have a similar ambition to them after finishing around eighth in the 2025/26 edition.
Stephen Baxter's side finished 2025/26 in the top half, around seventh spot, to give them a bit more solidity to build from this time around and it certainly shows in their shape and style.
Carrick are a compact, pragmatic unit that are set up to damage opponents with their direct play, quick transitions and set-piece prowess. Paul Heatley remains their trusted veteran finisher, while Daniel Purkis and Joe Crowe added some regular bite in the attacking third to their game in 2025/26.

David Jeffrey's men will bring an organised and disciplined team to Northern Ireland this weekend and will look to control the game by keeping it in the cage and grinding out a result.
