Larne leading the way in the Irish Premiership
Larne have been the dominant force in the Northern Irish top flight this season, racking up 80 points from 37 games to top the Premiership Championship Group 2026 table.
Nathan Rooney’s men have lost only twice in 19 home fixtures in the competition and will head into Saturday’s game with Dungannon full of confidence after claiming a 2-0 away win over Linfield FC and a 0-0 draw at Glentoran FC in their last two Premiership Championship Group 2026 fixtures.
Rooney took charge in June of 2025 and has built a side with a proactive, possession-based identity that presses well and attacks in numbers.
The Larne side will look to overwhelm Dungannon with their high-tempo game.
Swifts have been struggling of late
Swifts, who are sixth in the table with 46 points from the same 37 games, have been on a poor run of form of late and should find it tough to get a result on Saturday.
Rodney McAree’s men have lost four of their last five games, with two of those coming away from home, and have won only one of their last three away trips.
Dungannon went down 5-0 at Glentoran FC on their most recent trip and were beaten 1-0 by Cliftonville FC prior to that. McAree will set his side up to be pragmatic and defend deep with a 4-5-1 or 4-4-1-1 and look to take advantage on the counter.
Larne will not be as deep as that, but they could be frustrated at times by the Swifts, who are very good on set pieces and have their captain and set-piece specialist to create chances.
History suggests Larne will make the most of the home advantage
Larne are 7/50 to win Saturday’s match with the oddsmakers clearly indicating the hosts are the only team that will get any sort of reward from this clash.
That makes the home side a touch of a liability at the moment, but they are still very worthy favourites for this clash for a number of reasons.
Larne have won three and Dungannon two of the last five head-to-head matches with no draws, which suggests this should be a competitive game and at least a goal each.
But given Dungannon have averaged only 0.78 goals per away match in the Premiership Championship Group 2026 and have scored 14 goals on the road, this looks unlikely to be anything other than a home win.
Larne have conceded only 14 in 19 at home and will dominate possession, but Dungannon will pack their box and make it difficult for the hosts to break through. So Larne should win, but don’t expect a landslide.
Larne’s 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 system will be up against Dungannon’s 4-5-1 or 4-4-1-1 and the visitors will try to make it a low-scoring game with plenty of counter-attacking opportunities. But Larne are likely to control the tempo and there is enough evidence to suggest that, with over 2.5 goals priced at 63/100, this should be an open game.
