Leatherhead to edge it in style showdown
Third place Leatherhead FC have begun the season with more verve than 15th place Maldon & Tiptree, taking seven points from their opening three games (W2, D1, L0) compared to the Jammers three (W1, L2). Ian Selley's men have the tidy structure and work-rate to keep doing so, although they'll have their hands full on Saturday when they host a Maldon & Tiptree team who play with a high-octane directness.
The Tanners are 9/20 favourites here to win against the 23/5 Jammers, with the draw at 13/4 behind both. Those are pretty clear favourites and not the best place to be for a Saturday fixture, but the numbers tell us plenty about the clash of styles between the teams on Saturday.
Leatherhead are a typically English outfit that like to build patiently from the back, keep their shape, and press high up the pitch to force turnovers when in possession. Selley's side can be a tough watch at times, but they are highly organised and usually have enough about them to get the job done.
Maldon & Tiptree, on the other hand, will look to attack quickly from the start, get the ball wide, create chances, score a goal, defend on the break, create more chances, score another goal… it's a simple formula, but one which can work effectively when executed. Mark Hawkes' men still have the same identity and they will be looking to hurt Leatherhead with their speed of transition and set-piece threat.
Tanners can dictate tempo
Whichever team dictates the tempo in this contest will have the advantage and that should be Leatherhead, whose form at home in the Isthmian League Premier Division has been impressive. They've won two of their last three home fixtures, while Maldon & Tiptree have lost their only away trip in the Isthmian League Premier Division 2026/2027 - conceding six times in that defeat.
The Jammers do have the quality and directness to keep this game interesting and a bet on both teams to score at 11/20 also fits the numbers nicely, but we're siding with the home side to nick it. Leatherhead can get on top early and hold off the visitors when Maldon & Tiptree inevitably go on the attack. Under 2.5 goals at 73/50 could be a good bet if the Tanners can control the tempo for long enough.
