- The Reds have made a flying start to the 2026/27 Premier League 2 campaign with two wins from two, nine goals scored and just one conceded.
- Brentford U21 have scored eight goals in three games, but they've conceded too many against Everton in a 2-0 defeat that hinted at some defensive shortcomings.
- The Reds are favourites at 37/50, but the Bees look overpriced at 67/25 with the draw at 17/5, which is why we're leaning towards a goal-fest.
Familiar faces should put on a show
Manchester United U21 and Brentford U21 have very little in the way of head-to-head history in the Premier League 2, so Friday's fixture at The Progress With Unity Stadium, England shouldn't be a grudge match. It should be a fresh game for the new campaign, but one with plenty of familiar faces for those following the Premier League.
Travis Binnion's Reds have been playing in an attack-minded style and already appear to have the right players to make the system tick, even if the likes of Shea Lacey and Jaydan Kamason are a little left-field in terms of the players expected to shine.
Brentford boss Sam Saunders is a big believer in playing with tempo, so there will be a clash of styles between a possession-based Manchester United and the Bees, who prefer to play vertically and release their players at pace when they win the ball back. It looks set to be an open game.
Reds can nick it
The hosts have shown more ruthlessness in front of goal and have conceded fewer, so we're siding with the United U21s to nick it, with the 2-1 home win our preference from the correct score market.
Binnion's men have started with a bang, blowing away Ipswich 5-0 and Leicester 4-1 in their first two league games, while the Bees have been in and out of games against Stoke City (3-2 win), Sunderland (5-1 win) and Everton (0-2 loss).
Kaye Furo has been a regular scorer for Saunders' men and looks like the Bees' most dangerous early-season finisher, but United's forward line and the addition of Kamason's dead-ball prowess should tilt things in the home side's favour.
Leigh Sports Village should be buzzing for another academy-night clash and the weather forecast suggests the game could be slick and open, so we're taking Over 2.5 goals at 29/100 and Both Teams To Score at 9/25.
