Arteta wins Manager of the Season

The award feels justified, but it is also a bit of a legacy vote. Arteta’s season was strong enough on its own, though, so I do not think it is a bad choice.
 
People are acting like this is some outrageous decision when the bloke won the league and kept Arsenal tight at the back all year and then somehow the same crowd that spent months calling him a fraud are now pretending he only got it because of some long term narrative and not because he actually delivered, which is exactly why football discussion is unbearable sometimes because every result gets twisted into whatever angle suits the argument and nobody just says fair enough he won it and move on, not to mention the way everyone is suddenly selling Le Bris like he was managing a Sunday league side to Europe when Arsenal literally finished the job and that should count for something
 
I think people are being far too dismissive of the side that lost out here because if you actually look at what was asked of Arsenal and what was asked of the other managers it is not as simple as saying league winner equals automatic winner, Le Bris had to take a team from the Championship and get them into Europe which is a massive achievement in its own right and Andrews had everyone writing Brentford off before a ball was kicked, so to just laugh that off because Arteta has the bigger badge is a bit lazy in my view, and even if Arsenal did end the long wait that does not mean the others were fantasy candidates, football is not a charity award for the biggest club and people should stop acting like questioning the result is some anti-Arsenal agenda when plenty of us are just saying the other lads did exceptional work too
 
If you want the cleanest argument then it is simple enough, title wins usually decide these things and Arteta has finally delivered one after years of pressure, so the award does make sense. But once you start looking at the actual season it gets murkier because Le Bris and Andrews both had proper overachievement stories and there is a reason people are annoyed. I just hate how these awards always turn into a rewrite of the whole year where everyone pretends the winner was obvious all along and the rest were just filler, because that is never how it felt week to week and now everyone is making it sound like a landslide when it clearly wasnt, and honestly this is why football fans can be absolutely unbearable
 
classic internet meltdown this, one half screaming deserved and the other half acting like the award has personally insulted them absolute scenes
 
There is a strong case for Arteta because he delivered the title and did so under huge pressure. At the same time, Le Bris and Andrews were both excellent and it is easy to understand why people feel one of them could have won it instead.
 
The officials are always invisible when it suits people and then suddenly everyone wants to talk about fairness when an award is given out, which is exactly the same nonsense every season, because if Arteta wins the league and people still try to frame it like some kind of favouritism then what are we even doing here, the bloke has had every bit of scrutiny under the sun and still got Arsenal over the line, so the constant moaning about who should have won what is just another way for people to ignore the actual football and turn it into a conspiracy when there is no need for it

On paper, this is a pretty sensible call because league winners usually carry the strongest case and Arteta has clearly taken Arsenal to another level. But I do think people are underplaying how impressive the other candidates were, especially when you look at the expectations around them before the season started. Still, once you factor in the pressure, the title, and the fact that Arsenal have been knocking on the door for years, it is understandable. The annoying part is everyone will now pretend they had the exact same opinion all along and act like anyone disagreeing is just bitter, which is such a boring way to talk about football awards, and honestly the whole debate has already turned into a proper echo chamber
