Brand Finance club brand values: Real top, United down, Arsenal up

I get why people are mocking it, but a brand is not just trophies or revenue and that is probably why the list looks so strange to fans imo

United fans in here typing essays like the badge itself pays rent and the rest of us are meant to pretend this list is sacred because some finance company said so

Honestly the funniest part is how every time one of these rankings comes out everyone starts pretending they are experts in branding and valuation like they have spent years in some office crunching numbers when really most people just want confirmation that their club is bigger than the rival they hate, and then you get the usual suspects saying United should be top three because of history while others say Arsenal deserve their spot because of recent momentum and then someone else points at Chelsea or City and asks how any of this is possible and the whole thing turns into a massive circular argument that never ends because no one is actually talking about the same definition of value, and the truth is these lists are built to be argued over so of course they are a bit daft and of course everyone is going to act like their own club got robbed

If the model values global reach and commercial pull, then the ordering makes more sense than people are giving it credit for. That still does not mean fans have to like it, but it is not completely random either.

What really gets me is the way these people hide behind fancy terms and pretend the numbers are some kind of truth when they are clearly guessing at a load of stuff nobody can properly verify and then everyone on the internet gets dragged into fighting over it like it actually matters to the football on the pitch and not to some consultancy presentation that will be forgotten by next week, and the worst part is the officials of these rankings always act like the methodology is crystal clear when it is anything but, they can dress it up with charts and percentages all they want but if United are down in 8th and some clubs are ahead that most fans would never place there then something in the process is off or at least not explained properly enough for anyone to take seriously

At a certain point you have to separate brand from nostalgia. Real being first is obvious, Arsenal rising is believable, and United slipping from where many fans instinctively place them is not shocking if the model is based on current visibility rather than legacy alone. But then you look at the rest of it and it starts to feel messy, because the gap between what supporters feel and what these firms calculate is massive, and that gap is exactly why people get so annoyed. I am not saying the whole thing is nonsense, but it absolutely feels like the sort of list designed to provoke a reaction, and fair play because it has worked, every fanbase is in here losing their minds and acting like their club has been personally insulted

The sensible reading is that this is about commercial perception, not a pure football hierarchy. Once you accept that, some of the placements stop looking insane and start looking merely debatable. But then you remember how much of football is still about memory, identity, and tribal status, and suddenly every club supporter is back to saying their own badge is untouchable and everyone else is a fraud and honestly that is why this whole thing is so funny because the more the numbers try to sound objective the more emotional everyone gets and the more you realise football fans will argue about literally anything if it gives them a chance to say their rival is tinpot
