Brentford 3-0 Spurs: proper battering

Brentford have come away with a 3-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur and the reaction is already going exactly how you’d expect. A lot of people are calling it a shock, but others are pointing out Brentford were strong last season and this maybe shouldn’t have been treated like some massive upset.

Spurs, meanwhile, are taking plenty of stick for how flat they looked. The comments are full of talk about the money spent, the lack of improvement, and the feeling that Brentford were just miles better in every department.

What stood out more to you: Brentford being genuinely impressive, or Spurs being alarmingly poor?
 
The officials absolutely let this turn into a shambles from the start, every little thing seemed to go one way and the game lost any rhythm because of it, Brentford were still better no doubt but the ref and the people on the touchline just made it feel like they were taking the piss all afternoon and Spurs never got a fair crack at building anything
 
Honestly I watched this thinking Spurs would sort of grow into it and they just never did, it was one of those games where you keep waiting for a response and it just doesnt come, Brentford looked settled and Spurs looked like they had no clue what the plan was
 
Brentford deserve a lot of credit because they looked organised, aggressive and comfortable throughout. Spurs were poor, but this result also says something about how well Brentford handled the game. It was not just chaos, it was a controlled performance from the home side.
 
Brentford were excellent and that needs saying before the usual Spurs pile-on starts. But the bigger issue is that Tottenham looked like a team with no urgency at all, and that is hard to ignore imo
 
I actually think people are being way too harsh on Spurs here because Brentford were not some lucky smash and grab side, they were good and they made everything awkward and if you are a Tottenham fan you have to admit the whole thing is embarrassing, but it is also not as simple as just saying the players do not care or the club is cursed because football goes in cycles and sometimes a team gets hit with a bad run and everyone acts like the whole project is dead, Spurs have had enough chances to build something and have not done it, yes, but Brentford deserve credit for making them look second rate and that is the bit people keep skipping over, you cannot just dismiss that as luck or one bad afternoon
 
The most measured reading is probably that Brentford were very good and Spurs were very bad, which sounds obvious but people love turning one result into a total verdict on a club. That said, there is something weird about how flat Spurs looked and if that becomes a pattern then the questions get much bigger very quickly, because one off poor performances happen but repeated lifeless ones start pointing at something deeper and then everyone starts arguing about mentality, tactics and recruitment until the thread becomes a complete mess
 
All that money and all that hype just to get absolutely folded by Brentford lmao the whole thing looked like a training session where one side forgot the rules and the other side were just having a laugh
