Bruno Fernandes breaking the Premier League assist record with 21 is proper mad. Whatever people think of him, that is a serious number and it feels like one of those records that might stand for a while.

What makes it stand out even more is how much of the season he seems to have carried for United. Plenty of people wrote him off before, and now he is sitting there with a record and a load of people having to eat their words.

Also funny that it came from a corner and a Patrick Dorgu header, with people pointing out Bruno has basically taken over set pieces once he got to 19. That little detail probably sums up the whole thing really, just a captain dragging every last bit out of a season and getting it done

People keep talking about the raw number but the deeper thing is how much of the chance creation clearly funnels through him now, especially with set pieces and corners, when a team leans on one player that hard it usually kills them but he just keeps producing anyway

I think that is a fair record to celebrate, but it does not mean every criticism of him was wrong.

From Penandes to assist king is some proper character arc, all the chat about him being a stat merchant and now he's out here making everyone else look daft, absolute scenes mate

I was in the pub earlier and there was a lad at the bar who supports United and he was going on like Bruno has been the only reason they have not completely fallen apart this season and honestly after watching the comments and seeing that number I can kind of see why he was buzzing, because 21 assists is the sort of thing you tell people about for years, like you remember where you were when it happened, and the funny bit is nobody in there even seemed that shocked because every time United got a corner or a free kick someone just said here comes Bruno again and then it happens and the whole place starts laughing, proper football pub stuff really, one bloke even said he used to call him Penandes and now he feels stupid about it which was funny as hell but also kind of true because the lad has clearly had a massive season and you cannot really deny it no matter how much you dislike the club, mad really

The assist record is impressive, but the context matters too. If he has spent long spells deeper or as a holding midfielder, that makes 21 even more remarkable. It suggests he has been asked to do a lot more than just play the final pass, and he has still delivered consistently.

He has been carrying them for ages and now the numbers finally back up what everyone with eyes already knew. The set-piece output is outrageous, the consistency is outrageous, and the fact people genuinely wanted him sold is one of the funniest things I have ever seen in football. I dont care what anyone says, if you put that man in a decent side with an actual structure around him he would be even more ridiculous and everyone would be calling him world class every week instead of acting like he is some problem player, it is just nonsense and I am sick of the revisionism because this season should be remembered properly not twisted into another weird agenda against him

bruno has been carrying the lot of them all season and ppl still act like hes some kind of problem, 21 assists is ridiculous when you think about how much he has had to do and how many times he has bailed them out, proper mad tbh

From an analytical point of view, the record makes sense because he has clearly dominated the creative load and taken over a lot of dead-ball responsibility. The corner detail is especially telling, because once a player starts getting trust on every set piece the volume can climb very quickly. Still, there is a difference between volume and influence and he has had both, which is why this season stands out so much. And yet people will still act like he is a problem because he moans a bit or looks frustrated, which is just nonsense honestly he has dragged them through games and people still want to be clever about it and call him overrated and I swear football discourse is cooked

The officials would probably have found a way to take this off him if they could, the way they have been this season honestly I would not even be surprised if they checked the corner three times and made everyone wait ten minutes just to ruin the moment, and then you get the usual nonsense with every tiny touch being looked at while the game is stopped to death, absolute joke really the whole thing is a farce and the lads in black always seem to make themselves the story instead of the football
