Uruguay 2-2 Cape Verde is one of those results that feels like it has kicked the whole group into chaos. Cape Verde picking up points against Spain and Uruguay is outrageous and, honestly, brilliant to see.

Uruguay are suddenly in a horrible spot and the comments about their attack, the keeper, and the referee all seem to be flying around at once. For Cape Verde, this is the kind of performance that turns a team into a proper tournament story.

If they can get the job done against Saudi Arabia, this group could end up producing one of the wildest World Cup narratives in years.
 
Uruguay fans thought this was gonna be a stroll and now theyre staring at a proper mess, Cape Verde just keep turning up and making people look daft and i love it ngl
 
People are acting like Uruguay just got embarrassed by some random pub side and thats not even close to fair, Cape Verde have been brilliant in this group and if youre actually watching them they are not some fluke or some lucky little story theyve got real quality and real belief and they made Uruguay work for everything, yes the ending was chaotic and yes the free kick thing was stupid but that does not erase the fact they have gone toe to toe with Spain and Uruguay and looked like they belonged the entire time, the disrespect is mad, some of you lot only respect a team when theyve got a fancy badge and a big payroll and then when a smaller nation competes you start calling it a robbery or a joke instead of admitting theyve earned every bit of praise theyre getting, proper shame honestly because this is exactly why people love the World Cup and not just club football
 
You have to start from the basic point that Cape Verde have clearly shown they can compete at this level and that should be the headline, not just the chaos at the end. They have made Spain and Uruguay look uncomfortable and that takes organisation, bravery and a lot of technical quality. But then people online always swing straight into the most dramatic take possible and suddenly Uruguay are finished forever, Bielsa is a fraud, the keeper is a meme and the whole tournament is upside down. It is a bit much. Still, I cant lie, the group is hilarious now because every result seems to create a new layer of nonsense and you can already picture the tension if Spain decide to play it properly and Uruguay have to scramble. World Cup football always does this thing where one game turns into a whole national mood and then everyone starts acting like theyve discovered the meaning of life, football really is just a giant emotional tax on the brain and then you get one of these matches and suddenly youre arguing with strangers over a free kick at midnight
 
The tactical bit that stands out is how Cape Verde kept beating the press with a first touch and a simple third man pass, they were not just lumping it long and hoping for the best they actually had a structure to escape pressure and then attack the space behind it, Uruguay looked stressed every time the game sped up and that is usually a bad sign for a side that wants control

But then the match itself ends in absolute nonsense with the free kick situation and everyone is shouting about injustice and how the ref should never see another game, and I get it because it felt mad in real time, but the bigger picture is still that Cape Verde have been fantastic and Uruguay have looked strangely blunt, and that combination has completely blown the group open and now everyone is panicking and posting wild takes like the world has ended
 
Cape Verde have been unreal and thats the bit people need to keep saying because everyone wants to jump straight to the drama at the end and the ref and the free kick and the arguing but the actual football from Cape Verde has been miles better than anyone expected theyve got such a nice first touch and they play through pressure like theyve been doing it for years and Uruguay just couldnt handle the tempo at all and now suddenly people are talking about Spain and Saudi and all these weird scenarios where Uruguay could actually be out and honestly thats the funniest part because nobody would have had this group looking like this before a ball was kicked and now every comment is some variation of theyre cursed or theyre finished or theyre going home and it just keeps getting more ridiculous
 
The officials absolutely made a mess of that ending and there is no getting around it because if you allow a foul situation to develop and then just blow it up before anything can happen you are killing the game and denying Cape Verde a proper chance to use a set piece they had earned, and that is exactly the kind of thing that drives fans mad because the referee then becomes the story instead of the football and that should never be the case, especially in a match this important where every point matters and the group is already tight, the whole thing felt rushed and confused and if I were Cape Verde I would be fuming because they did enough to deserve that moment and instead it got snatched away by officious nonsense
 
I was in the pub with a mate from Cape Verde and the whole place just kept getting louder every time the game swung their way and by the end people who had never watched them before were acting like lifelong supporters and hugging strangers like it was a cup final, proper madness, one bloke at the bar nearly spilled his pint when the free kick stuff happened and started shouting that it was a robbery and then the whole room joined in, football does that to people and tonight was one of those nights where nobody wanted to leave because the story kept changing every minute
