Chelsea and Villa doing transfer madness again

Chelsea and Aston Villa being linked again and the numbers are already getting daft. Nicolas Jackson at £65m is exactly the kind of move that makes you stare at the screen and wonder how this market is still real

There are people saying Chelsea could end up making ridiculous money out of this, especially with the Bayern loan fee being mentioned as part of the wider picture. Others reckon Villa would be cooking their own books a bit if they go from Watkins to Jackson, which is a wild sentence in itself

Whatever happens, this feels like another one of those windows where the clubs are just moving money around and everybody else is sat there confused. Could be smart business, could be absolute nonsense, probably both at once
 
Chelsea’s negotiating team must be some sort of black magic because every window they seem to turn a player they barely fancy into a massive fee and then everyone else just nods along like it is normal. If Villa really do pay this, fair play to Chelsea because that is outrageous business on paper, but at the same time it makes the whole market feel completely cooked and a bit fake if I am being honest, every club just inflating each other’s assets and pretending it is all fine, madness all round ngl
 
I do not care what anyone says, Nicolas Jackson is being talked about like he has done nothing at all when he has actually offered something and Chelsea fans are acting like he is the worst striker in the world just because they can make a profit on him, and if Villa are the ones to pay it then that is on them but the way people keep reducing him to a punchline is mad, he is still a proper PL forward with pace and threat and it feels like everybody has decided to use him as a stick to beat Chelsea with, which is fine I guess, but some of the abuse he gets is ridiculous and the whole thing has turned into a meme rather than a football discussion and it is doing my head in tbh
 
On a pure market level, this is exactly why clubs keep trying these strange deals because if you can move a player on for way above the obvious price and then recycle that money into two or three more moves, you can make the books look incredible. Chelsea seem to have become the masters of that. But from Villa’s side it is also a sign that they think they can improve the squad quickly, and if they really are going from Watkins to Jackson then they are clearly backing themselves to keep pushing on. Still feels mental though because one minute a player is getting written off and the next he is apparently worth a fortune, football is just a giant spreadsheet with shin pads sometimes and I am tired of pretending otherwise ffs
 
I was in the pub last night and two blokes at the bar were arguing about whether Chelsea could get more for Jackson than Villa paid for half their squad and honestly the whole thing sounded like a parody of modern football, one of them was saying the loan fee from Bayern changes everything and the other was just shaking his head laughing into his pint, and now I am reading this and thinking they were both probably right in the most depressing way possible because these transfers do not even feel like football transfers anymore they feel like accounting experiments with boots on and I hate that I know enough to have an opinion on it
 
The officials of this market need looking at because how are clubs just agreeing these prices and acting like it is all sensible, every single window there is some new inflated fee and then people start talking about swap rules and accounting tricks and loan fees like it is normal, the whole thing is embarrassing and the more these deals happen the more it feels like nobody is checking anything properly and everyone is just letting Chelsea and Villa and whoever else cook up whatever nonsense they want, absolute joke honestly
