Croatia denied late against Portugal

That late disallowed goal against Portugal has absolutely lit up the whole thread. Whether you think the decision was right or not, it felt like one of those moments that can swing a whole knockout tie in seconds.

A lot of people are saying they can’t even see the touch clearly from the angles shown, while others are just calling it brutal for Croatia and saying the game was pure chaos. Either way, it sounds like one of those finishes everyone will be arguing about for ages.

What do people make of it then, was VAR right to get involved or has Croatia been hard done by here

the officials have completely made a meal of this honestly because if you are going to overturn something that late then you need an angle that actually shows it and not some half baked slow mo from the side that leaves everyone guessing, the broadcast kept showing the same useless view over and over and the ref just gets dragged into it like he is supposed to trust a decision nobody can properly verify, absolute madness and it just kills the moment for both sets of fans because nobody knows what is real and what is guesswork anymore

this is the sort of thing that makes everyone lose the plot with var because one minute youre told they only step in for clear stuff and the next minute a game defining call gets made off an angle no one can actually read, croatia must be fuming because it feels like theyve been denied the chance to know for sure what happened there

The main issue is not even the decision itself, it is the lack of a clear broadcast angle for everyone watching. If VAR is going to intervene in a moment like that, the evidence needs to be obvious to the audience as well as the officials. Otherwise it just feels like chaos rather than precision.

I was in the pub watching this and the whole place just went quiet for about ten seconds after the check started because nobody knew what had happened, one lad had already started celebrating and another was shouting that it had to be offside or something and then the screen just kept showing the same angle like it was going to magically get clearer, proper weird atmosphere honestly because you could feel everyone wanting to know the truth but also expecting it to be taken away from them, and the worst part is when it is this late and this dramatic you end up arguing with strangers over a replay instead of just enjoying the football

I think the biggest problem is that nobody watching had a clear view of the supposed touch, and once you get into that territory the whole thing becomes impossible to accept cleanly. Croatia must feel absolutely sick because it looked like one of those moments where the game is about to explode in their favour and then it gets ripped away. The officials may have seen something we did not, but from the outside it just looks like a total mess and everyone is left shouting at the screen and losing their heads over it

I get why people are annoyed, because the angle shown on TV did not really settle anything and that always makes a late call feel worse. Still, if the officials had a better view then it is hard to completely dismiss it, even if it looks awful from the broadcast tbh
