Absolutely horrible scenes tonight. Seeing Christian Eriksen collapse again straight after the old fears from EURO 2020 is the kind of thing that makes football feel completely irrelevant for a moment.

The good news, thankfully, is that the latest updates say he is conscious and doing well under the circumstances. The match has been called off, and at this point the only thing that matters is his health and whatever comes next for him and his family.

It does make you think this may be the moment for a serious conversation about whether he should carry on playing at all. Whatever happens, he has already given the game so much, and nobody would blame him for putting life first.

It is obviously a terrifying situation, but the early updates sound much better than everyone feared. The fact he was conscious and able to walk off changes the mood completely, even if it is still a very serious moment.

The main thing is he is conscious and getting checked over, everything else can wait. Football can take a back seat when something like this happens tbh

I do not think people realise how heavy this must be for him and for everyone watching, because the first time was already one of those moments that sticks with you forever and now it has happened again and you can almost feel the whole stadium holding its breath. The updates saying he is conscious are obviously a huge relief, but even then you are left thinking about what that means for his future, for his family, for the Denmark setup, for the club side of things, basically for everything. You cannot just shrug this off and call it bad luck because it is way bigger than football, it is bigger than a career, bigger than a result, bigger than any debate about whether he should keep going. If this is the end then fair enough, he has already given so much and nobody should be asking for more, but if he does carry on then it has to be with complete certainty and proper medical confidence because this is too serious to gamble with and it honestly makes your stomach turn thinking about it all again

Mate I was in the pub when this came on the telly and it went dead silent like someone had switched the whole place off, even the bloke at the bar who never watches football was just staring at the screen and nobody knew what to say, and then when the updates started coming through about him being conscious you could feel the whole room exhale at once, proper relief, like everybody had been holding their breath for ten minutes straight. I still remember the first time so clearly and this just drags all that back out of nowhere, it is horrible, absolutely horrible, and it makes you think about how quickly a normal night can turn into pure panic, fucking hell

Saw the update and just felt my heart drop and then lift again in the same minute because you expect the worst with something like this and then suddenly there is a bit of hope, still cant stop thinking about what his family must be going through right now and how scary that pitch must have looked
