EU Parliament calls for Infantino investigation

I dont think its fair to act like the European Parliament suddenly discovered morality and decided to save football from corruption, this is as much about politics and optics as anything else and FIFA have been a rotten mess for years so everyone knew this was coming eventually anyway

Feels like the real problem is that FIFA is built so a bloke like Infantino can sit there and absorb all the noise while nothing structural changes, you can investigate him all you want but unless the wider setup gets pulled apart it just becomes another headline and the next suit walks in and does the same thing

Infantino probably saw this and started drafting another speech about unity and development and all that shite while the whole room knows he is taking the piss

This is the sort of story that makes you realise how detached FIFA are from normal football people, because the rest of us are just trying to enjoy the game while they keep turning it into a never ending scandal machine imo

It is hard to take any of this seriously when the same people have spent years acting like they are above scrutiny and somehow still end up in the same seats after every scandal. Infantino has become the face of that arrogance whether he likes it or not, and the longer he hangs around the more he drags the whole game into the dirt. It is not even anger at this point, it is just fatigue, because every new headline feels like a reminder that football governance is a complete mess and nobody with real power seems interested in cleaning it up, and that is what really gets me because fans get told to respect the institutions while the institutions are taking the piss every single day

Honestly this is just the same old pattern with FIFA and it does my head in because every few months there is another massive headline about some investigation or complaint or call for accountability and then nothing meaningful happens and the people at the top just keep smiling for cameras like they are running a charity not a global football empire and Infantino is right in the middle of all of it acting like he is untouchable and that is what annoys me most because the bloke never looks rattled even when the whole thing is on fire

This could damage Infantino’s standing, but the bigger issue is FIFA’s culture of insulation. If the investigation only targets the individual and not the structure around him, it may end up as little more than a symbolic gesture.
