Guendouzi and the Lyon fan chaos

Mad scenes after Fenerbahçe’s win and qualification, with Matteo Guendouzi right in the middle of it again. From the clip it looks like things kicked off after a fan came onto the pitch and suddenly everyone is piling in.

Whatever you think of Guendouzi as a player, it’s hard to blame him for not just standing there and taking it if someone has crossed that line. At the same time, this is exactly the sort of nonsense that turns a big European night into a complete mess.

Feels like there’ll be plenty of blame to go around here, and probably a few fines and bans as well. Proper chaotic ending to a huge result
 
Seen it all before at the pub after a cup final mate some absolute helmet thinks hes hard because theres a crowd around him then the second it goes wrong hes pointing at everyone else like he was just there for the atmosphere and not trying to start a scrap, proper embarrassing behaviour from the fan and honestly if youre jumping barriers at a football match you are already beyond help
 
guendouzi is always in some sort of nonsense isnt he but honestly if a fan jumps the rail and starts acting like that then what do people expect, players arent mannequins and theyre not gonna just smile and wave while some muppet is trying it on
 
People will still find a way to make this all about Guendouzi when the bloke in the stands is the one acting like a clown, ive seen enough of this guy over the years to know he winds people up but that does not mean you get to sprint out of the crowd and try and square up to him, the whole thing is on that idiot and the club should be throwing the book at him because players get baited every week and most of them just walk away, Guendouzi at least stands there and doesnt play the saint act for cameras, which is why everyone hates him, but the actual problem here is the fan and anyone pretending otherwise is just coping
 
This is exactly why these nights can turn ugly so quickly. One minute it is celebration and noise, the next you have a fan on the pitch and players reacting because they are human beings not robots. Guendouzi is obviously a nightmare to deal with and he will always attract trouble, but that does not make it okay for someone to jump the barrier and start acting like a hero, and the security guard deserves credit for getting involved fast because this could have gotten so much worse, absolute madness, just keep your head and enjoy the win for once ffs
 
The key moment is the fan leaving the stands, because that instantly turns it into a security issue rather than a football issue. Guendouzi’s reputation is irrelevant at that point; the club and stewards have to protect the players first and ask questions later.
 
Officials and stewards completely lose control in moments like this and then everyone acts shocked after the fact, how does a fan get that far in the first place and why is it always the same story with big European nights where the people paid to keep order are nowhere to be seen until everything has already kicked off, then they start wagging fingers and talking about consequences like that means anything after the fact, absolute joke of a system and the people responsible should be ashamed because this sort of thing is predictable as hell and yet it keeps happening
 
The bigger point is that crowd control has to be better in these situations. Once a supporter reaches the pitch, the match is no longer the story, it becomes about safety and discipline.
 
Guendouzi does love a bit of chaos and that is part of why people are so quick to pile on him, but if you strip it back the fan is the one who chose to climb in and make contact so the blame is obvious here. You can dislike the player, you can think he is a shithouse, you can say he invites it, fine, but at some point basic common sense has to kick in and people need to stop pretending a footballer has to just stand there and absorb abuse forever, ridiculous stuff and the more I watch it the more it annoys me because it was completely avoidable and now everyone is acting like it was some big surprise
