J. Alvarez 112th minute stunner

I am honestly fed up with people pretending this was all down to the finish and not the player who let it happen in the first place because the defending was shocking and he gave him way too much time to settle and line it up and now everyone is acting like the scorer has just invented football when really the whole thing was made easier by a massive mistake and I swear every time this lad is involved people forget the basics and start gassing him up like he is some untouchable superstar when half the work was done for him by the mess around him

Was in the pub when a goal like that went in once and the whole place just went dead for a second before everyone started shouting at the telly and spilling pints everywhere, proper weird moment because you can actually feel the room change when something outrageous happens and then the same lads who were moaning ten seconds earlier are suddenly acting like they always believed it was coming, football does that to people every time and it never gets old

On a technical level that is exactly why good strikers get paid the big money, because they can generate power and placement in one touch when everyone else is panicking. But honestly I am more impressed by the nerve than anything, late in a game like that so many players snatch at it or take an extra touch, and he just goes for it and buries the thing and now I am sat here watching the replay like an idiot because that is the kind of goal that ruins your evening if it goes against you and makes you feel ten feet tall if it goes for you, proper madness

You can say the defending could have been tighter, and maybe it could, but the actual strike is still outrageous and that is the part people are going to remember. Late goals like that hit different because the whole stadium energy changes in an instant and then everyone is just left staring at the replay like theyve seen something unreal and honestly im proper sick of people trying to drain the fun out of it by turning everything into a blame game when sometimes you just have to admit a player has produced a moment and leave it there

The best part of a goal like this is how quickly the conversation shifts from tactics to pure reaction, because for all the analysis in the world there is still something about a late strike that overrides everything else. People can talk about shape, pressing, and defensive errors afterwards, but in the moment it is just instinct and noise and a stadium losing its mind, and that is why football keeps pulling everyone back in even when you swear youve seen it all before, then one replay comes along and suddenly youre back to being a kid again shouting at the screen and forgetting every sensible thought you had five minutes earlier

they backed off at the worst possible moment and once a player like that gets the sight of goal its basically over, no pressure on the ball no second defender arriving and then people act surprised when it ends up in the net, proper schoolboy stuff really

I watched it back three times already and it still feels mad every time, the kind of goal that makes you sit there with your mouth open for a second before you even react, and thats when you know its special because your brain cant process it straight away

It is a brilliant finish, but the late timing is what really elevates it. Goals like this change how a game is remembered, even if the build-up around it was messy.

Honestly this is exactly why people love football because one touch one moment one clean hit and suddenly everybody is losing their minds and replaying it from every angle like its some kind of religious experience and fair enough because it is ridiculous but I also cant get over how many times you see a player hold his nerve like that when the whole game is hanging there and the defenders are just standing off and you know whats coming and still you cant stop it and the keeper is left with nothing but a hopeless look and the rest of us are just shouting at the screen like idiots because thats the game and thats why moments like this live forever
