mate the amount of people acting like this is deep analysis is hilarious because its clearly just a throwaway line meant to sound big and confident and now everyone is pretending to be offended or impressed when really they just want a reason to post the same joke again and again and again
 
Everyone is laughing at the quote but I do not think it is fair to act like the side he is backing is already beaten by a bit of pundit chatter, because football is full of these grand statements and sometimes the underdog thrives on them, sometimes the noise just fuels the dressing room, and if Messi ends up being the focus then maybe that is exactly what the other team wanted anyway, so I am not going to write anyone off because of one silly line from a commentator, that would be daft
 
i dont really buy the idea that this is disrespectful because football has always had this kind of talk around it and people only get precious when it is a big name like messi involved and if anything joe cole is just saying out loud what plenty of fans would say in the pub anyway
 
imagine being the lad in the dressing room trying to stay serious while this quote is flying around the internet and every second reply is a meme about putting messi to bed absolute carnage
