Kane for the Ballon d’Or?

Kane’s strongest case is that he offers both elite finishing and real all-round involvement. If voters are serious about rewarding the best individual season, he is right at the front of the queue.

The measured view is that Kane probably has the cleanest statistical argument, and in a year without a truly obvious runaway candidate that matters a lot. But football fans never stop at the football, do they, because now it becomes about club politics, league bias, who said what on TV, who got enough hype, and suddenly a straightforward conversation about a player having a huge season turns into a referendum on the whole sport and everyone is acting like they are defending civilisation rather than just picking a winner

People need to stop pretending the side losing this debate is somehow deluded because there are perfectly fair reasons to back Kane and perfectly fair reasons to question the whole Ballon d’Or process, and it is not some crime to say a player from a dominant side can still be amazing and still have his numbers carry weight, because that is literally how football works sometimes, you score loads, you influence games, you do your job, and then everyone online starts acting like you have personally offended their favourite club or player, which is ridiculous, the man has had a massive season and the people trying to strip that away just because they dont like the headline are being weird about it
