Klopp on Tuchel criticism

There is a sensible middle ground here. Klopp is right that managers are often blamed for everything, but the tactical setup still has to be judged on what it actually produced. If the team had neither control nor threat, criticism was always going to follow.
 
The fairest read is probably that people are mixing up two separate arguments. One is whether a cautious approach can ever be justified, and the other is whether this particular team and this particular moment called for that level of caution. Those are not the same question. You can believe managers should not be scapegoated while still admitting that the side looked lost, passive, and unable to keep the ball, and that is why the debate keeps going in circles because everyone is talking past each other and acting like the only options are genius or disaster, which is just lazy, and then you add the usual pundit noise and suddenly every bad decision becomes a moral failing and every criticism becomes anti-manager hysteria and nobody is actually discussing the football properly any more
 
Was in the pub when this kind of debate kicked off after a game once and it turned into the usual nonsense where one lad is shouting about tactics, another lad is blaming the keeper, and someone else is saying the manager should be sacked before the pint glasses have even gone down, and honestly this thread feels exactly like that, everybody talking over each other, nobody listening, and the poor bloke behind the bar just nodding like he has heard it all before, which he probably has, because football fans love nothing more than turning a simple bad night into a national emergency and then acting like they are the only one with eyes, absolute madness, proper pub arguments all over again and somehow the same conclusion never gets reached because everyone is too busy trying to win the debate rather than talk about the actual match
 
If you want to defend deep you still need some kind of outlet and a way to move the block up the pitch, otherwise you are just inviting pressure for no reason, and thats what made the whole thing look so poor, the shape wasnt compact enough and there was no threat going the other way
 
I do think the side in question gets talked about like they are miles better than they really are and that matters here, because if you are not a team that naturally controls games then asking them to suddenly dominate possession against a top side is a big ask, and people act shocked when that does not magically happen. That said, I still do not think that means the criticism should disappear, because there is a difference between being limited and being passive, and the performance looked passive. But I am also tired of the way people talk as if the players were all useless and the manager was the only thing standing between them and footballing greatness, because thats not fair either, these lads have carried teams before, they have won trophies, they have had to grind through matches their whole careers, and sometimes the tactical plan just does not land, sometimes the opponents are better, sometimes the moment gets to you, and then the internet spends three days acting like the whole squad is finished which is ridiculous and disrespectful and honestly a bit embarrassing
