Mourinho on squad management and frustration

Mourinho has always been at his best when he can make the dressing room feel like a battlefield and I think thats why people are already talking about this quote like its some huge omen, because he doesnt just manage footballers he manages pressure and status and who feels important and who doesnt, and that can work brilliantly for a while when the results are there and everyone is buying into the idea that the manager is the one man standing between order and chaos, but the second the performances dip the whole thing gets messy and emotional and then you start seeing the cracks and the sulking and the public comments and the little digs and suddenly everyone is pretending they did not see it coming

At a basic level this is just a manager saying he needs buy-in from the whole squad and that is completely normal at an elite club. The problem is Mourinho never communicates in a normal way, so every reasonable point comes wrapped in a bit of menace and a bit of theatre and everyone immediately starts looking for the hidden target. That is why this will run and run, because if the squad responds well he looks like a genius and if there is even a hint of friction it becomes a full blown Jose storyline, and honestly that is exactly what he wants because he lives for the spotlight and the tension and the sense that he is always one step away from a row and a press conference meltdown and bloody hell it is exhausting but also impossible to ignore
