Newcastle unveiling Nico in front of a sold-out St. James’ Park has got people talking, and fair play, it looks like a proper occasion. For a club that has had plenty of noise around their transfer business, this one feels like it has landed with real excitement.

City fans seem split on whether they should have moved him on at all, while Newcastle supporters are understandably buzzing about getting a player others wanted. There is also the usual debate about fit, value, and whether this is another smart move or another one of those signings that only looks great on day one.

Either way, it is hard not to notice the mood around Newcastle right now. They look like a club that believes things are moving in the right direction, and this unveiling has only added to that feeling.
 
Fair play to Newcastle that is a proper statement in front of a full house and you can tell the lad feels wanted which is half the battle really City fans acting shocked like they didnt see this coming though
 
He looks like a decent fit for Newcastle because they can actually give him a clear role and a crowd that is fully behind him. At City, the issue sounds more like his position and the system than the player himself.
 
As a City fan, I can understand why people are frustrated, but I think the bigger point is that this sort of move only makes sense if the club is honest about fit. Nico always looked like a player with decent effort and attitude, yet the comments about him not being a natural six or an eight in that style make a lot of sense. If that is true then the problem is not just the sale, it is the original decision to bring him in and expect him to solve something he was never built to solve. Newcastle, on the other hand, seem to have taken a player who was clearly available and made the most of it, and that is exactly the sort of thing that can lift a whole fanbase. Still, it stings a bit because you watch him unveiled in front of a packed St James’ Park and think yeah, we may have let another one slip through our fingers for no good reason
 
The interesting part is not just that Newcastle have signed someone people wanted, it is that the whole thing feels like a statement about momentum. When a club gets a player unveiled to a sold-out stadium, the optics are huge, and it tells everyone inside and outside the club that the project is moving. City fans are understandably annoyed because they seem to think he was useful enough to keep, but then you also hear the tactical side of it and maybe there is more to it than simple regret. It makes you wonder how many of these modern transfers are really about a player being bad and how many are just about systems, roles and timing. Then again, football fans never really accept that because it is much more fun to say someone blew it and move on, which is exactly what everyone is doing here
 
I was in the pub earlier and there was a lad at the bar who swore blind Newcastle were going to have a massive window and he kept saying it like he had inside info and everyone just laughed at him and now here we are with another one of these moves and honestly it does feel like they are building something even if people dont want to admit it and the best bit is you can already hear rival fans saying whats the catch and maybe there is one maybe there isnt but the whole thing has that proper football feeling where the crowd is buzzing and everyone is pretending they are not impressed when they clearly are and I remember seeing similar scenes when clubs start to believe again and suddenly every signing looks like a smart one even before a ball is kicked
 
The officials didnt have anything to do with it but somehow if this goes wrong people will still blame everyone except the people who made the decision in the first place and that is exactly how football works now isnt it one bad move and suddenly the whole board are geniuses or idiots depending on which fanbase is shouting loudest and City fans can cry about losing him but they also have to admit they made the call and Newcastle are just standing there taking advantage of it like any club would if the opportunity was there and honestly the whole thing is a reminder that transfer business is less about truth and more about who can spin it the best and who can pretend they saw it coming all along
 
I still do not get the pile on with him because he clearly had something about him and the attitude stuff is being used as a lazy excuse now, he worked hard, he looked willing, and the bigger issue was always that people wanted him to be something he was not, and that is on the club and the system more than the lad himself, now everyone is saying hes been wasted like he was some lost superstar and not a player who needed the right role from day one and if Newcastle give him that then fair enough but the constant revisionism is doing my head in because it turns every move into a disaster story or a genius move depending on what shirt the player is wearing and that is bollocks honestly
