This is exactly why football fans are impossible to please because one minute a player is being called wasted and the next minute people are acting like he was some genius all along when really it might just be that he needed a different club and a different crowd and a different job on the pitch and that is it, simple as that, but nobody wants simple because simple doesnt get clicks or arguments or big dramatic takes in the replies, so instead you get City fans saying they should never have let him go, Newcastle fans acting like theyve just signed the future, and neutrals pretending they are above it all while clearly loving the chaos, and honestly fair enough because the whole thing does feel like one of those moments where the mood around a club changes in an instant and everyone starts talking about momentum and belief and statement business and all the rest of it, but until he actually plays it is all just noise and if it works people will say they knew it, if it doesnt theyll say the warning signs were obvious, and that is football in a nutshell and it does my head in
