From a tournament perspective, this is exactly the sort of match where margins decide everything. England were not dominant, the bracket did not look especially scary, and Mexico had enough of a window to force extra time if they had been a bit more ruthless. But once the chance passed, the emotional weight of it all clearly hit Ochoa and you could almost feel the regret through the screen, which is why this sport is so brutal and so ridiculous and why people end up screaming at the telly like absolute idiots because one moment you think the whole thing is there and the next it is gone and everyone is left staring at a keeper in tears and saying what if what if what if
 
It was a painful end for Mexico, but I would not reduce it to one simple failure. England were under pressure too, and the match only needed one clean moment to swing completely.
 
England were there to be beaten and Mexico absolutely knew it, which is why the reaction from Ochoa feels so intense, because that kind of chance does not come around often and you can tell he understood the size of it as soon as it slipped away, and honestly that is what makes football so savage, one minute you are still alive and thinking about extra time and the next youre looking at a veteran keeper completely broken and it just makes you want to scream because how many more chances do you get before people stop talking about potential and start talking about another wasted night and another bloody round of 16 story that never changes
 
nah i dont buy the whole curse thing or the idea that this was some heroic england escape because mexico had the situation right there and still didnt do enough with it, thats on them more than anything and people getting carried away just because ochoa is upset are missing the point completely
