From a tournament perspective, this is exactly the sort of match where margins decide everything. England were not dominant, the bracket did not look especially scary, and Mexico had enough of a window to force extra time if they had been a bit more ruthless. But once the chance passed, the emotional weight of it all clearly hit Ochoa and you could almost feel the regret through the screen, which is why this sport is so brutal and so ridiculous and why people end up screaming at the telly like absolute idiots because one moment you think the whole thing is there and the next it is gone and everyone is left staring at a keeper in tears and saying what if what if what if
