Savio has put out a farewell message to Manchester City on Instagram, and the reaction online has been exactly what you'd expect: mostly jokes, a few earnest thank-yous, and plenty of people taking the mickey out of how short and low-key it was.

It is one of those posts that tells you as much about modern football social media as it does about the player. Some are reading it as proof he never really settled, others are just laughing at the whole thing and the need for translations in the first place.

Either way, it has kicked off a proper bit of banter. Was this a genuine goodbye, or just another polished football farewell that nobody really believes?
 
On a basic level, this is just a goodbye post and nothing more, but the replies are doing the most because people can smell the lack of emotion from a mile off. If you are meant to be the future and the message reads like it was dragged through three languages and a committee, then yeah, fans are going to laugh. Still, City have made a habit of turning these things into brand content and then acting surprised when nobody buys the sentiment, and now everyone is sat here dissecting a farewell like it is some kind of state document and honestly its all just so fake and so annoying and I am tired of football being one big PR machine
 
The officials would probably have checked this farewell for offside and still found a way to make it about themselves if they could, because that is how cooked football discourse is now, every little thing gets turned into a debate and the refs are somehow in the middle of it even when a player is just saying goodbye on instagram, absolute joke really, the whole game is run by people who can ruin a normal moment with a whistle and a clipboard and then act shocked when everyone hates them for it
 
It feels more funny than emotional, which is probably why it landed the way it did. City fans will shrug and move on, but neutrals will always notice when a goodbye sounds a bit too neat and tidy tbh
 
Fair play to him for keeping it simple. Not every farewell needs to be a massive speech, and sometimes the short message says enough. The reaction is probably bigger than the post itself, to be honest.
 
People are acting like this proves he never cared but that is nonsense because plenty of players leave clubs without writing a novel and it does not mean they were fake at all, sometimes the lad just wants to say thanks and move on and not perform grief for the timeline, City fans are always quick to turn on anyone the second the vibe changes and then act like every exit has to be some emotional farewell tour, he is a young player trying to get his career right and if the message is short then so what he still said thanks and that should be enough but no everyone has to turn it into some weird loyalty test and now the whole thing is getting mocked like he personally insulted the badge and its just pathetic honestly
 
The interesting bit is not the wording itself but how instantly everyone clocked it as low effort and that tells you modern footballers are always expected to sound like they are in a sponsorship reel, if a message is too short then it gets called fake and if it is too long then it gets called PR and either way the club culture has already won because nobody believes anything anymore, Savio probably just wanted a quick goodbye and the fans turned it into a whole debate about authenticity and image control
 
Honestly this is exactly the kind of thing that gets people talking about a player more than his actual football because one minute everyone is discussing a farewell message and the next minute they are acting like they know his whole mindset at City, and with Savio it is always the same story, people see a name, see a transfer fee, see a bit of hype and then decide whether he is a gem or a flop before he has even properly settled, and then when the message comes out people start digging in on every word as if the length of an Instagram post is proof of character, I just think some of you are desperate to make every young player into a meme, if he leaves then he leaves, if he was not the level people wanted then fine, but the obsession with mocking him for saying goodbye is weird as hell and the whole thing just feels like another excuse for football Twitter to pile on someone for no real reason
 
I get why people are laughing because the whole thing does look a bit too neat, but at the same time it is still a public goodbye and not every player is going to write a long emotional essay. If he did not feel some massive connection then maybe that is just what it was, and that is fine, but the modern game makes every little thing feel like a statement and now everyone is reading a tone into a post like it is a contract. It is all a bit strange really and the more I look at it the more I think football social media has broken our brains because we are all sat here arguing over whether a farewell was sincere enough and meanwhile the club probably just wanted the optics sorted and the player wanted the chapter closed and that is basically it
