Spurs agree £75m deal for Savinho

Spurs have apparently agreed a £75m deal for Savinho, and the reaction is already all over the place. Some people think the market has fully lost the plot, others reckon this is just what elite-feeling talent costs now.

There’s also the usual mix of City fans, Spurs fans and neutrals all taking completely different readings of it. Is this a ridiculous overpay, a smart move for a 22-year-old, or just another sign that transfer fees have gone absolutely mental?

Either way, it feels like one of those deals people will be arguing about for months.
 
75m for a lad with that city record is absolute madness tbh but this window has been weird as hell and clubs are just throwing money around like its nothing now
 
Spurs are paying for fit and upside more than output here and thats why the fee looks disgusting on paper, if he gives them width and end product then it changes the attack but right now it feels like a premium for desperation
 
i was in the pub earlier and one of the lads was saying football fees are just fantasy numbers now and honestly this feels like proof, nobody even blinked when the bill came in for a round and then someone said 75m for savinho and the whole table just started laughing like we had all lost it, because how do you even value a player when a winger can go from city to spurs for that sort of money and everyone just shrugs, i remember when we used to argue over 15m being a lot and now its like yeah whatever add another twenty on and call it market conditions, proper mental really
 
At some point you have to admit this is not just one bad fee, it is the whole market being completely detached from reality. Savinho is clearly talented and Spurs obviously think he solves a problem, but £75m for a player with that kind of output at City is wild and people pretending otherwise are just coping because they want their club to be the one doing the spending. And then we will all sit here in two months acting shocked when the next winger costs even more because everyone has decided to be stupid at once, absolute clown show honestly
 
I dont buy the whole this market is impossible line because clubs still choose to pay these sums and Spurs are doing it willingly if they think he is worth it then fine but lets not act like every overpay is forced by some invisible market hand when teams keep making the same stupid decisions
 
This feels like a classic case of a player being priced for potential as much as current output. Spurs are taking a big risk, but if they believe he can become a key attacker then the move makes a bit more sense than the headline fee suggests.
 
I dont even know what to say anymore because every time you think a fee has peaked another club comes in and makes it look normal and this one just feels like Spurs have decided to stop pretending they care about sensible business and are just going full send, if he flops they are going to get dragged for years and if he does well everyone will pretend it was obvious all along and that is the annoying part, the whole internet will rewrite history and act like 75m was cheap when it was actually outrageous and we all know it, the market is proper broken and the people running it are taking the piss
 
Spurs are clearly paying for the age profile and upside here, so it is not as simple as judging him on raw output alone. Still, £75m is a massive gamble for a player who has not exactly lit up City, imo
