Sunderland are in Europe

imagine being told a year ago theyd be in europe after all that and id have laughed in your face absolute madness really

I swear some people are still not giving Brobbey enough credit because every time I watched them he looked like a nightmare to deal with and people keep acting like its all about the flashy name signings when the actual work is being done by lads who understand their role and do the dirty stuff and if youre a defender against that lot all game you must be absolutely sick of it because they just keep coming and coming and it wears you down and thats why this team has gone so far and why some of the so called bigger clubs have looked soft against them

from promotion to europe and still some people will try say its a fluke when the whole league just got rinsed by them twice all season

I remember sitting in the pub with a couple of Sunderland lads not that long ago and they were talking about the bad years and the worry and the whole mood around the club and now theyre in Europe and I can still hear one of them saying if we ever get back to feeling like a proper club again thats enough and now look at them its one of those stories that makes football worth it because it can go from grim to unreal so quickly and everyone in the room ends up buzzing whether they support them or not

If you strip away the emotion, this is still one of the best coached seasons in the league because they have got the balance right between risk and control and that is why they are there rather than just surviving comfortably. But honestly the emotion is the whole point, because this is the sort of thing that makes football feel alive and if you have watched them through the bad years then this has to feel like a complete vindication and I would be absolutely unbearable if it were my club because its just too much really, too much in the best way and everyone else can get stuffed tbh

They have clearly found a strong identity and a manager the players trust. That is usually the difference between a good promoted side and a special one.

Credit has to go beyond the headline names because this looks like a club that has finally got the right structure from top to bottom. The manager clearly gets a huge amount out of the group, and the players seem to buy into it completely, which is why the season has had real consistency rather than just a few big moments imo
