Vini Jr has somehow managed to turn a routine clip into another full-on talking point, and the reaction is exactly what you’d expect. A lot of people are focused on the dive itself, but the new look is getting just as much attention, which is probably not what he wanted from the moment.

The main debate seems to be whether he should have seen a second yellow, because plenty of people think the ref bottled it. Others reckon the whole thing is just embarrassing and that he got away with one again.

Either way, it’s already one of those moments that fans will be arguing about for ages. Football really does love a bit of chaos when Vini is involved.
 
The dive is obvious, but the bigger issue is the second yellow angle. Once a player is already on a booking, the ref has to be braver there. He gets away with too much because everyone expects drama.
 
honestly im sick of seeing this every time with him because its always the same story one moment hes on the ball and could actually do something useful and then he just goes down like hes been hit by a bus and everyone acts shocked when the ref does nothing or gives him another pass because hes a big name and the whole thing just turns into a circus and people will still defend it like its clever gamesmanship when its just embarrassing and if he had any sense he would just stay on his feet and play football but no he wants the attention and then the whole match gets dragged into this nonsense and everyone in the ground is losing their mind over a dive that should be punished properly
 
mate the new chin has done him no favours at all hes wobbling about like a bloke after three pints and then just hits the deck like hes auditioning for a soap opera
 
Honestly I am more annoyed at the way he carries on than the actual dive because this has become such a pattern with him, every time he is under a bit of pressure he starts throwing himself around and then acting like he has been hard done by, and people keep saying he is brilliant so he can do what he wants but that is exactly the problem, if one of our lads did that we would be fuming and calling him a clown, but because it is him there is always some excuse about contact or balance or whatever, and it is getting ridiculous now because he drags the whole game into a mess and then stands there looking offended like the world has wronged him, proper embarrassing behaviour from a player who should be above that sort of stuff
 
The key issue is that he had a better option and chose the dive instead. That makes it worse than a soft fall, because the attack could have continued. A more decisive referee would have cut it out with the booking.
 
I get why people are angry but I’m not having the full on hate train because he was clearly clipped earlier and got nothing for it, so you can understand why he might think he has to go down to get any protection at all, the whole thing is on the referee as well and not just on him, if officials actually punished the first foul properly maybe players would stop feeling like they need to make a meal of every touch, and yes it looks bad and yes it is annoying but the match context matters and it is way too easy to pretend he is the only problem when the standard of officiating is all over the place and that is before you even get to the inconsistency with cards and fouls that everyone can see
 
The ref has basically invited this by being inconsistent all game, one moment there is contact and nothing happens then the next a smaller touch gets a card and suddenly players are gambling on every incident, if you do not control the tempo of the cards then the diving will keep happening because lads will test it every time
 
The incident is less surprising than the reaction to it. Vini always seems to create a split opinion, even when the clip is fairly straightforward.
 
Seen it all in the pub with lads arguing over this sort of thing for years and it always ends the same way because one side says contact is contact and the other side says he has milked it and honestly both sides are usually shouting past each other while the replay is on the telly and nobody agrees, I remember one night we were watching a game and the same thing happened with a winger going down under barely anything and the whole room split in half with one bloke saying it was a stonewall foul and another bloke saying he should be booked for embarrassment and by the end of the night nobody even cared about the football anymore because it had turned into a debate about honesty and gamesmanship and that is exactly what this feels like as well, just another evening ruined by a player making a meal of something and half the fanbase pretending it is genius and the other half wanting him sent off to the moon
