- Eastern Suburbs are undefeated in their last four NPL Queensland games.
- Brisbane Wynnum Wolves are on a three-match winning streak, coming off a victory over Gold Coast United.
- Eastern Suburbs are in 4th place with approximately 21 points from 11 games, one point better than 5th-placed Wynnum Wolves with 20 points from 12.
Two evenly matched Brisbane clubs face off
Eastern Suburbs have won multiple NPL Queensland head-to-head meetings in 2025 but the last meeting ended 0-0 in August last year, showing that this Brisbane derby is a tight contest.
This is another six-pointer as Eastern Suburbs have one more point than Wynnum Wolves with one fewer game played. Both teams will be close to full strength for the clash and there's no word of any injuries or suspensions in either camp.
Easts are in the mix for a top-four finish
Redha Alrikabi has turned Eastern Suburbs into a tactically flexible side that can press high and play with energy and intensity. They've been in good form, stringing together results and rarely getting thrashed, keeping them in the top half of the table. Last time out, they trounced Rochedale Rovers 6-1 but they have also had to grind out results, keeping two clean sheets in their last three NPL Queensland matches.
With Christopher Parsons, they have a keeper who can keep them in games, as the visitors will find out if they can maintain their recent form. Easterns' forwards have been in prolific form and their ability to transition from defence to attack has been key to their success. The Easterns can mix it up by sitting deeper, but their natural game is to attack and it will be fascinating to see how Alrikabi sets his side up against Wynnum Wolves.
Wynnum Wolves are on the rise
The home side's success has made this a much closer contest than it has been in previous years, when it was more of a development fixture for Easterns. Graham Harvey has made them a side to fear with a structured, high-tempo, possession-based approach that has produced three wins from the last five in the NPL Queensland.
Zach Maltby and Nathan Nguyen have chipped in with goals during their recent winning run and the Wolves will be confident of scoring again on Wednesday. Jez Lofthouse provides the width and pace and Josip Milicevic controls the midfield with his experience and ball control.
Game is likely to be close and cagey
While the bookies rate Easterns as the favourites at 2.16, Wynnum Wolves are good value at 2.67 with the draw at 3.78. Given the proximity of the two clubs in the table, a close encounter is likely.
Both Teams to Score - Yes at 1.36 looks like a solid bet as both sides will have chances in an open contest. With Wynnum Wolves playing an attractive style and Easterns pressing high, it could come down to set-pieces or who gets the better of the transitions.
