- Bulls FC Academy and Inter Lions FC will clash at Sydney United Sports Centre on Saturday with severe thunderstorm warnings in the Sydney area
- Over 2.5 goals is favoured with odds of 1.45, while Bulls FC Academy are 2.06 favorites to beat Inter Lions
- Both teams have had some pre-season results and the draw is 3.7 for this NSW League 1 2026 curtain raiser
Bulls are on the move under Muller
Bulls FC Academy finished 2025 with a bang, winning and drawing some high-scoring games to carry momentum into their pre-season under the development-focused coaching of Nicolai Müller. The Bulls boss prefers to play a possession-based vertical style with pacey wingers that can cross the ball and get at the defence, but they will face a real test of their defensive depth with the promotion of academy products Will McKay and Sebastian Krslovic.
Müller, who is bringing in some new signings for 2026, will have to integrate some new faces into the backline as Bulls look to build on last year’s mid-table finish in Football NSW League One. The Bulls’ best player in 2025, Zane Helweh, scored double-digit goals and earned promotion to the A-League pathway, so the academy may have to rely on his scoring ability on Saturday if he is named in the starting side.
Lions will lean on Cevini’s pragmatic approach
Inter Lions FC will not be an easy opponent for the Bulls to break down as they are a compact, organised and solid unit who will look to be tough to beat, playing a pragmatic style of footy with a focus on counter-attacking and crossing the ball into the box from wide areas. Shane Cevini’s Lions finished 2025 with a late-season run of resilience and late winners, but their pre-season form has been mixed.
Inter Lions were on the receiving end of a 6 - 0 thumping by Bulls in April 2024, although they responded by winning 3 - 0 in July 2024 and claiming a 3 - 1 victory the last time these two met in June 2025. Both teams have a similar goal of pushing into the top-half of the League One table and early-season momentum is a big deal, so there is a lot at stake for this clash.
Bulls have the beating of Lions in a thriller
The odds on Bulls to win this game at 2.06 are just about right. The Lions are listed at 2.89, which looks a tad short considering how much more the Bulls have to gain and the fact that the draw is 3.7.
Bulls have a youthful team with more flair going forward, while Lions have the steel and structure to counter-punch and make life tough in the latter stages. Hence, a game where the Bulls nick it or a goal-fest draw are both likely outcomes with both sides conceding more than they would like, but both capable of producing attacking flair. Back over 2.5 goals at 1.45.
Nicola Kuleski bagged a double in the Lions’ 3-1 win over Bulls last June and looks a goal threat in this fixture again, while Gianni Di Pizio is the Lions’ main threat as noted in our Round 1 preview in this league.
