- Darwin Hearts are unbeaten at home this season, winning two and drawing one of their three home league matches.
- Darwin Olympic are also in fine away form, winning two and losing two of their last four away matches.
- Hearts have conceded just two goals in their three Northern Territory Darwin Premier League 2026 home matches this season.
Soares’ Hearts on a hot streak
Darwin Hearts are slight favourites to beat Darwin Olympic at 2.4, although Olympic’s recent form should be enough to tempt a bet on the visitors at 2.39 with a draw at 3.6 also very possible. The draw is worth a small interest, but there is enough evidence to suggest this could be a really good game and take the hosts, who are the home side in this local derby.
Both sides have identical form of three wins and two defeats across the last five games in all competitions, but Hearts have an excellent home record with two wins and a draw from three games this term. Olympic have games in hand, sitting fourth with seven points from three matches, while Hearts sit third with 10 points from five matches.
Hearts have an unblemished home record this term
They are also coming off an impressive 5-1 home win over Casuarina FC on Friday and will be riding the wave of that result into Saturday’s game. In contrast, Olympic were on the road to win 8-1 at Garuda FC recently, so both sides are attacking on a tear at the moment.
There have been two wins apiece and one draw in the last five meetings between these two clubs in the league and this has the makings of another close encounter, although Hearts have a slight edge. Olympic can get on the scoresheet at Larrakia Park, however, where they average 1.7 goals on their last three visits while Hearts average 0.7 at home against their rivals from across town.
Pressure and pace can cause the visitors problems
John Tsaknis’ Olympic side can generate so much pressure in the opposition half and they like to play at pace, which can make things very difficult for a side that likes to keep a structured line and play off the break.
Tsaknis sets his team up in a 4-3-3 formation and the main feature of his philosophy is to press in numbers and then get the ball wide quickly to create overloads. Hearts can be flexible in a 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 system, which allows Soares to give his wide men freedom to come inside or attack behind the striker while the full backs cover.
Hearts will look to control the pace of the game and create space to counterattack, so it will be a clash of styles that should favour Hearts because they will be able to set the tempo.
Back over 2.5 goals in this game at 1.38 seems way too short given both teams have been flying recently and Hearts have been tight at the back. Olympic will test them at the top and there’s likely to be enough of an end-to-end game to keep the bookies happy.
