Chance for cup glory is a clear incentive
The winner of this FFA Cup 2026 qualification round local derby will take one step closer to the national Round of 32, while the loser will be eliminated from cup contention.
It's a big occasion in Edgeworth then, and with plenty of local pride on the line, we could see an intriguing tactical battle play out between two distinctly different teams.
Edgeworth boss Peter McGuinness is a pragmatist by nature and has done a decent job since top goalscorer Ryan Feutz left over the off-season. Eagles have continued to score goals as a collective, with a number of players chipping in up front and in attacking midfield.
The Eagles have been a solid, compact 4-2-3-1 outfit who sit deep, maintain a structured midblock and attempt to transition forward quickly when they win the ball. They're in decent form after a 3-1 league win over Maitland and a 4-2 Australia Cup preliminary round victory at Toronto Awaba, but McGuinness knows that his side are prone to lapses in concentration and have been derailed in previous unbeaten runs by a single error.
Azzurri are a physical, high-pressing outfit
Charlestown boss James Pascoe's men will also sit compact, but they play at a higher tempo than Edgeworth, using their physical midfield to dominate the ball and press high when necessary. They create overloads out wide, and have scored goals in recent cup wins over Minmi (5-0) and West Wallsend (2-0).
The difference in quality between those two sides and Edgeworth is massive, however, so the cup magic which saw Azzurri through to this stage will need to be at its best if they are to overcome a stronger side on Saturday.
Azzurri's main attacking threat comes with Tommy Smart as their creator and Jamie Burns as their goal threat. Both should be mentioned in any bets placed on either team to score anytime.
Edgeworth’s edge in odds reflects form and home advantage
Edgeworth are the rightful favourites for this cup tie, as their league form shows. They're in a much better position than their opponents coming into this one.
McGuinness' side have also dominated the head-to-head in recent seasons and with home advantage, we're backing them to edge this one. The odds for both teams to score, however, are far too short at 1.38 and we're taking that on as our main bet for this intriguing cup clash.
The weather is forecast to be cool and sunny for the match in Edgeworth, which should make for an ideal night of cup football, but with the home side's superior form and better quality, we're going with them to get the job done in 90 minutes.
