- Hurstville ZFC have had a mixed bag of results in their last five games (W2, L3) but notched an important victory away at Canterbury Bankstown FC just four days ago.
- Hakoah Sydney City East are winless in five (D3, L2), most recently losing 1-2 at home to Prospect United SC.
Hurricane Hurstville to make it two from two at home
Hurstville ZFC currently sit 11th in the New South Wales League 1 2026 table with 8 points from 7 matches, while Hakoah Sydney City East are two places below them in 13th on 7 points from the same number of matches. Both sides will be looking to end the weekend with an improved position to ensure they’re still playing in League One come 2026 and to build on their history.
Hurstville ZFC are a team designed by coach Valerio Silvestro to be a well-disciplined unit, but they can be dangerous in transition, particularly through the wide areas and when the deep midfielders make runs behind the defence. They are very difficult to break down, but on their day, they have a real threat going forward and this is a match that will be a real test of patience and possession.
Hakoah are a much more compact and narrow team, and coach Craig Sharpley has instilled a clear and consistent identity on the side. He wants his team to frustrate opponents, contain the game in the centre and limit the number of clear-cut chances they face, which they do by maintaining a compact shape and allowing their opponents to play wide where they’re not as effective.
A game of chess is on the cards
Both of these sides are quite pragmatic and will look to get at the other with a different tactic. Hurstville have more energy in their game as they look to press and then transition into attack quickly, whereas Hakoah are more compact and will try to contain the home side.
The odds for both teams to score come in at a very short 1.43, which is probably too short, but we still feel that both sides will get some joy in attack. Hurstville are the favourites at 1.99, whilst the visitors are slightly overpriced at 2.98. We’re going with the hosts to edge out the win in a close match.
Hurstville have had a pretty mixed run of results recently, but they always seem to bounce back after defeats with higher-scoring matches, such as last weekend’s 4-2 success at Canterbury. Hakoah have been winless in their last five matches and lack the cutting edge up front and a win would be a great confidence boost to this young team that are looking to build a legacy.
