- Portland Timbers have one win, five defeats from six MLS 2026 away games.
- Inter Miami CF have won three of their last five MLS 2026 games (drawn 1, lost 1).
Star power should see Miami through
Inter Miami CF are fifth in the MLS 2026 with 22 points from 12 games while Portland Timbers are 22nd with 13 points from 11 matches.
The Timbers will be optimistic of getting a result on Sunday, despite their terrible away form, as the hosts are winless in their last two at home. Miami were dramatically beaten 3-4 by Orlando City in their last MLS 2026 home game at DRV PNK Stadium.
Angel Guillermo Hoyos took over on an interim basis in April 2026 and has settled on a fluid attacking style that varies between 4-2-3-1 and 4-3-3 formations depending on the opposition and flow of the game. Miami are full of individual quality and their talisman Lionel Messi, who tops the MLS 2026 scoring tables with nine goals in 11 games, is afforded the freedom of the park to cut loose.
Portland’s system is much more settled since Phil Neville took charge in 2024. They set up in a 4-3-2-1 formation that packs the centre of the field with bodies and tries to be solid in their central defensive block. When they win the ball, the onus is on them to transition quickly into a pressing team and break in numbers in a vertical way.
Tall Timbers have enough to score
On paper, this looks like an ideal fixture for the Timbers to pull off an upset. Miami’s attacking flair and individual brilliance should see them through to win the game, but Neville’s team will be in it and should have enough to get on the scoresheet.
Portland have scored six goals in six MLS 2026 away matches and can provide plenty of threats on the counterattack. Kevin Kelsy has been one of their main goalscorers with four strikes in 11 appearances.
The bet that looks good here is for the home win at around the 1.35 mark. The value is slightly better in the over 2.5 goals bet, but the odds are still skinny at around 1.25 and BTTS is just as likely with 1.48 available.
