- Launceston City (W) have conceded at least five goals in four of their last five league games.
- Taroona (W) have scored at least three goals in three of their last five TSLW games.
- A draw or a narrow win for either side is on the cards with plenty of goals likely in the game.
Taroona can make Launceston’s life difficult
Launceston City (W) are rated 1.68 favourites to beat 6th-placed Taroona (W) at home in the 2026 Tasmania Women's Super League when the 6th-placed visitors arrive at TassieCare Park on Saturday. The hosts have only six points on the board, the same number as the visitors, and both sides need a win to climb away from the bottom half of the table.
The odds reflect Launceston City's 5-0 demolition of Taroona on the road back in March, but the visitors have been in better form recently and the hosts are coming off the back of four heavy defeats in their last five. Alex Aylott's team have conceded 24 goals and only one draw with Kingborough since that victory.
There is a clear difference between the two sides' styles and Taroona's recent improved form is based on a few more attacking goals. Launceston City are a high-tempo, high-pressing side that like to use the width of the pitch to overload their opponents and create turnovers, which they convert quickly with direct attacking play.
Jason Hay's side like to set up in a compact, low-block system and play a slower, more possession-based style, trying to absorb pressure and then counterattack. Isolina Ottavi has been the inspiration in midfield, pulling the strings and highlighted in recent club features.
Judging the odds is difficult
Taroona have scored at least three times in three of their last five league matches and have the attacking variety to cause City problems. There have been multiple goal scorers in those games and they have the momentum and belief to have a crack at Launceston, who have shown little evidence of a recovery since their March win.
Club captain Chelsea Wing will need to lead her defence back to its previous solidity and rally her troops, who have been leaking goals for a while now. With new recruit Mia Judd coming in from the U.S. college system, there should be more attacking variety for them too.
The weather will be cool and possibly wet on Saturday, so a more direct game will be on the agenda and any defensive errors will be punished. Both sides to score is an extremely short price of 1.22, but the evidence from the last few games of both teams suggests it could land again. There are no value bets in the match result market, so the recommendation here is to take a draw or away win with plenty of match goals to keep the game interesting.
