- Newcastle Olympic have won none of their last three home games, drawing two and losing one.
- Charlestown Azzurri have won none of their last two away games, losing both.
Olympic’s open approach leaves them vulnerable
Newcastle Olympic have been shaky at home in Northern New South Wales 2026 this season, winning none of their eight outings on home ground (D4, L4) and conceding 17 goals in the process, which is 2.12 per game. Paul DeVitis' men score a respectable 1.38 per game at home, but they don't look quite good enough to push up the table at this point.
Olympic have lost three of their last five, drawing two, and they failed to get a victory when they entertained Charlestown last month. So that's 0-2-3 for Newcastle in a tough run that has seen them lose a little momentum.
A 1-0 defeat away to Maitland and a 0-0 draw at home to Cooks Hill United FC represent their two most recent results - hardly the kind of momentum-building outings needed to move up the ladder.
Tight turnaround for a transition battle
Charlestown are also in poor nick, winless in their last five (D1, L4), and they will be looking to keep things tight and compact in this one - probably sitting in a disciplined mid-block before forcing the play wide. In contrast, Olympic play an open brand of high-tempo football in a 4-3-3/4-2-3-1 hybrid system, so this could become a transition game. DeVitis' side will look to stretch the play while Charlestown will look to keep it tight, but given how poor both teams have been, the odds may be skewed.
The Charlestown visitors are 2.37 favourites here, while the home side are 2.42, with the draw 3.85. That's a little rich for our tastes, as this is a true mid-table relegation battle with the visitors a point worse off than Newcastle, but there are other angles.
Over 2.5 looks like best bet
The market has this game as a slight favorite for the visitors, but it's too close to call. Olympic have won 2-1 in their most recent Northern New South Wales 2026 matchup away from home. Charlestown have won two of their seven away games (D1, L4), averaging 1.57 scored and 2.29 conceded per match, so the Over 2.5 line at 1.44 looks the best angle.
Both teams to score is live at 1.42, but we don't think it's quite big enough to go for as a main bet, while the leaky nature of both sides leaves room for a tight, tense fixture, in which one transition could change the game. We'll take Over 2.5 in a game that should be open and stop-start at times.
