- Melbourne Knights U23 have won their last five U23 Victoria Premier League 1 games, scoring 14 and conceding three.
- North Sunshine Eagles U23 have won two of their last five matches in all competitions, conceding 11 goals.
- A Melbourne Knights win would put them in the running for the top half while North Sunshine are in need of points in their fight to escape the relegation zone.
Knights flying high
Melbourne Knights U23 are on a roll and are expected to run out winners against North Sunshine Eagles U23 in a local Sunshine-area derby at Peter McCauley Reserve on Saturday.
The Knights are a well-oiled machine after winning their five matches of the new season, scoring 14 and conceding only three. Nicholas Mori has scored a pair of braces in May, while Amanuel Woldegiorgis, Joseph Lettieri and William Hunter have also scored goals in the U23 Victoria Premier League 1.
They played a patient, possession-based, technical game of football, pressing in numbers when they lose the ball and usually set up in a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 system.
Their opponents North Sunshine have been much less consistent in their 4-4-2 approach that is more pragmatic than adventurous. They have a target man in experienced forward Ndue Mujeci and a pathway striker in Dion Muhtari to spearhead the attack, but haven't found a regular source of goals.
Knights’ attacking prowess to be decisive
Ben Isai's men have been more resilient than they were last season and have managed to integrate a lot of pathway players, but they have been conceding too many goals.
North Sunshine Eagles are bottom of the 2026 U23 Victoria Premier League 1 table with six points from 14 games. The Eagles have won only two of their last five games in all competitions, while conceding 11 goals.
They are not really a team of cup heroes, but they have shown enough fight in their cup ties to suggest they will make a game of it. But Melbourne Knights are so superior in every aspect that a three-point haul should be theirs for the taking on Saturday.
Marijan Cvitkovic's team have won their only previous meeting with North Sunshine this season 2-1 and will look to repeat that, or something close to it, on the back of their recent run of form. The Knights' superiority should be evident on the pitch and is also reflected in the odds where the visitors are heavy 1.26 favourites to win, while North Sunshine are 7.9.
Our bet is on the visitors to show their quality by registering a 2-1 or 2-0 win and the match odds are fair enough, but our best bet is on Over 2.5 goals at 1.17 because this should be open and the Knights are scoring plenty of goals.
